Slow startup after accidental mains power off

A couple of weeks ago my PC accidentally got powered off at the mains while it was in the process of hibernating. Ever since it has taken almost 10 minutes to turn on when waking up from a hibernate.

My system restore points don't go back far enough to restore to a point before that happened. Anyone have any ideas please if there's an easy way to get it back to waking up quickly again like it did before the incident?

Once it does turn on there are no obvious ill effects in performance.

Thanks :)

Thanks, have done that now, it said it had repaired some files so I'll see how the next hibernate and wake up goes! (I'll do a restart as presume that could be useful in the circumstances...)

If you still have problems then disable hibernation via the powercfg -h off command and then delete the hidden system file hiberfil.sys if it's still there. Reboot and then turn hibernation on via the powercfg -h on command.

If the problem was just that your hibernation file was corrupted by the power outage then this will fix that.

Thanks both, the sfc \scannow has got it down to 7 minutes instead of 10!

I'll try the hibernation disable option and see what happens. I do love the hibernate facility, would be a shame if I had to lose it...

Why it's pretty useless these days with the likes of SSD's where the computer will turn on completely from scratch in seconds

Not if you have a ton of windows open and were in the middle of something when you had to stop working. Hibernation in that case means you get back to exactly where you left off. Hibernation is not all about boot times.

You could just disable hibernation and let the screen go off after a period with no use. That way you don’t need to hibernate. Some browsers allow you to reopen with the previous set of tabs.
