Slow computer

Computer is running really slow after a year of use. The HDD LED on the front is not blinking like it normally would either. It just stays red. I've tried pretty much everything now like a virus scan. Cleaning it. Nothing seems to work. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like disk thrashing. Have you defragged your hard drive recently? Frequently used files can become scattered and fragmented across the drive increasing seek times and slowing performance.

Thanks for the quick reply. No I haven't :p I didn't know you had to do that. Is it the disk defragmenter in windows?

Yes it is. You can download different software which also move frequently used files closer to each other. Just defragging may not solve the problem. Run the defragmenter in windows first until you can get alternate software such as ultimate defrag. It's not free but does have a 30 day trial. :)

Just ran the one in windows and rebooted my PC. It said 37% fragmented which I'm thinking is very bad. It's loading stuff and running much faster now after that so I won't mess around with anything else just yet :) Thanks alot for the help.

Make sure you run ultimate defrag at some point. I doubt that this performance increase will last too long without running it. Good luck :)
