Setting up of speakers on the Vortex III

I have just bought a brand-new Vortex III laptop. What I would like is for somebody to give me some hints on how to set all the speakers and the sub woofer to their optimum performances. Do I need to choose surroundsound or anything like that?

Ideally, it would be great to hear from Vortex owners who have already gone through this procedure but anyone else's contribution will also be mighty appreciated.

Cheers

Thanx Wayne, that would be cool. I may have it all sorted out by then and then I can pass the advice on to you or whoever needs it.:)

This laptop is a beast and I think you made the right choice in the end. I bet you can't wait.:) I'm gradually transferring all my other programs over onto it from my previous Dell laptop.

Give me a shout when you get yours :)

cheers

Okay, this might help anybody who has bought a new Vortex III or is waiting for one to be delivered in regard to setting up the speaker system within it. I haven't exactly gone through it myself yet but I got this straight from PC Specialist.

There should be a program called 'THX TruStudio' that comes installed on the laptop, if you open this, enable TruVolume, TruBass and TruSurround, this should then make your laptop a bit louder, as well as implementing the sub for you.

As mentioned in another thread there's just the two stereo speakers + the sub (which is basically useless since a driver used to output bass frequencies has to be at least a few inches in diameter to have an effect).

You'll get pretty much the best performance you're likely to get by just setting the Windows audio layout to stereo by right clicking the speaker logo in the system tray > Playback devices > select the Speakers - Realtek High Definition Audio device > Configure and set it to Stereo > Full range speakers and finish. The THX software isn't even worth bothering with to install since it doesn't really do anything except make the speakers very marginally louder over the standard HD Audio drivers available from Realtek and even makes the sound worse in a few cases. There's also the issue with it not detecting if you plug headphones in but that's something I'll cover in a review of the Vortex III later this month when I upload a lengthy review (soon as I finish a large essay for Uni).
