Sausage fingered user creates problem...

Seasons greetings to all,

I have an issue with my rig, which I think I have diagnosed, however I am looking for clarification before I call PCS tomorrow.

I accidentally pushed the Clear CMOS button on the back of my computer yesterday. The computer had just been disconnected from ALL hardware/mains, however I could see that a little electricity was still flowing, as the MOBO was still lit up, and there was an LED on I believe I have therefore wiped the BIOS settings.

My computer will now not boot. I get a 'CPU fan error' which I always had, due to the Case cooling, followed by a 'press F1 to continue' this has never happened before.

The computer then begins to load windows, but is stopped short by a BSOD. The BSOD does not stick around long enough (.5 sec) for me to read, or get an idea of the problem. The PC then cycles around again.

Windows restore does not work either.

I believe this is happening because the BIOS does not recognise the config anymore?

If this is the case, (and I didn't make one) where can I get a copy of my personal BIOS settings from?

(If any of the above sounds tripe, it is because I am a Noob!)

Right, first off we need to go into the BIOS (Tap DEL on boot) we then need to go into hardware monitor and change the CPU fan to IGNORED, that gets rid of the silly error message on the freezone elites (fan spins up too slow on startup for MB to recognise it)

Secondly, you have an SSD drive, we need to make sure that in the BIOS under the MAIN heading the storage configuration is set to AHCI and not IDE (configure SATA as)

As you have tried to do a restore, you may need to reinstall windows, but hopefully not.

PaulH,

You have saved the day. Please have a beer!

Was my diagnosis correct, or around about there?

I changed the config to AHCI and I am up and running. Have I created anymore dramas for myself, i.e are there any other steps I need to take?

Thank you once again!!!!!
