Running 3 Monitors

Hi, Still awaiting my order and am thinking about going for a 3 monitor setup.

I have ordered 2x 3gb 580gtx.

Already have 2x Hazro HZ27WD , this has a Display port connection and 2560*1440 res.

If i buy a 3rd monitor will, I be able to run games over the 3 of them at max res?

Will I connect all 3 monitors to 1 of the graphics cards (2 via dvi and 1 hdmi) or (2 via dvi and 1 via DP?), or do they connect over 2 cards? what type of cable does a DP port use?

Thanks

You must use the two cards, you can use 2 DVI from one card & one DVI from the other,
the display port cable wont be necessary (like with eyefinity)
With that setup I think it should manage max resolution.

Ok great, so I could just connect them all up and away I go? No other specialist equipment or software?

Will this still be in sli?

Thanks

Pretty much, you may have to play with the display properties to make confirm which you want as your primary monitor, but that would be about it (unless your monitors need their own specific drivers that Windows can't find)

They will definatately need to be in SLI if you want to play games across all 3 monitors, and yes, it'll still be SLI if you have monitors plugged into both.

Thanks again for the advice, gonna order the 3rd monitor today! Just hope the all fit on my desk!

Hehe, yeah, thats the reason why I only have 2 monitors :)
Desk not big enough, room not big enough for bigger desk (not without chopping about a foot or so off the of the sofa anyway)

Yep just plug in the dvi cables, I got two 3GB GTX 580's on 3 22inch iiyama led monitors, can max out any game apart from one.... Crysis. Runs fine apart from the last AA setting on 3 screens with everythign maxed out it drops jsut below 20 fps..

So would you recommend 3 monitors? Is it that good for gaming?

What res would i run over these 3 monitors? How do i work it out?

How you think it will fair withBF3 over 3?

Thanks

Tbh a lot of games I run on single monitor, its brilliant for racing games and some shooters, cod deffinately is good on it, crysis too, f1 2010 and 2011 look stunning on 3 monitors, things like deus ex, look great on them but i tend to play single monitor.

The main advantage for me is workflow, for design work and programming its ideal, more dektop space. I mean I have 9 desktops on kubuntu each of which has 3 screens so go myself essentially 27 desktops lol, which is pretty useful tbh.

It depends if you run using bezel correction or not, without bezel correction its 3 x (1920 x 1080) monitors side by side in landscape or 3 x (1080 x 1920) in portrait. this means that your resolution in landscape is 5760 x 1080 or if you have 3 portrait monitors it would be 3240 x 1920. If you use bezel correction it will add a bit extra to this, so my screens are currently at 5990 x 1080. Bezel correction is used so it looks like your looking through a window rather than 3 seperate screens. Imagine if when you looked through your bedroom window the world only existed behind the glass and not behind the frames, you would get gaps in the world and it would look really odd. The bezel correction makes stuff flow behind the edges of the monitors. Looks much nicer basically.

Not sure about BF3, id have thought it would run pretty well tbh, but then crysis still brings my PC to its knees lol so well have to wait and see tbh.

LOL, go for it. Two-seater sofas are quite in fashion!
