Retirement present - thoughts?

Hi,

My current PCS machine is just over 3 years old so I am treating myself to a retirement present of a new PC which I hope is relatively future proof as I probably won't be able to keep updating on a pension! I will be using it for RDR2, Far Cry 6, Assassin's Creed Valhalla etc and I am currently using an LG 34GL750 monitor; I appreciate there are better 1440P, or 4K, monitors out there but it was a present from my daughter so I won't be changing it for a few years but hope that at least I will be able to play games on ultra settings. The specs are basically a PCS Topaz Ultra (as of 10th Nov) but I have upped the storage of the SSD and the RAM, I would be grateful for any thoughts for the machine re longevity with the listed games and that monitor. Many thanks.

No doubt someone will be along shortly.

but my view is 500D SE and change cooler to 115i Platinium With standard compound.

Add silver warranty.

also personally would fit a 500gb M.2 for OS.

keeping the larger M.2 for games.

Unless you are planning on getting a new monitor within the next 6-12 months then you are better off putting a lower spec card in (the LG is 1080p) and then putting the money saved to one side and spend it later if/when you need to get the new monitor

Well, you’d be able to get ultra settings with the 3060 but but seeing as that’s not out yet you’d be better off choosing the 3070 than your current choice. It’s an extra £200 spent that’ll make no difference to what you’re seeing on your monitor, so I’d plough that extra cash elsewhere in the system. As mentioned above, a Corsair case like the 500D SE or 680X would fit the cooler we want in there, the Fractal one I’ve used is just a placeholder. If you put the order in now, you could swap the cases when they come back into stock. You’d just have to keep your eyes peeled and check regularly. Here’s my alternate build...

One thought, given the limitations of the monitor is there any merit in upgrading my current PCS machine? Would upgrading the graphics card alone allow me to run the games I listed earlier, on ultra settings, or would the rest of the PC have too many bottlenecks? If a graphics card would make a difference then which one would my current macine support? The specs are as follows:

You could go for the system @AgentCooper suggested (with the 500D SE case, but use your own GTX 1080 graphics card (order it without graphics card).

the 1080 will last a while at 1080p.

Then either upgrade to 3050 or 3060 (later being best bet) at a later date and also upgrade to whatever 1440 monitors are around.

spend the cash on a decent base set up sans graphics card will mean a great system to build on to with next graphics card release etc.

Hi Gavras, thanks again for the input, very interesting as I was expecting that a change of the GPU would have made the biggest difference. I think I will go with the system as mentioned above including tweaks. If I keep my current system intact, including the GTX1080, then I may be able to sell it to help contribute to the cost of the new one
