RDR2 - Worth it?

I'm looking for a decent storyline game. Seems to get rave reviews but as with most games, I'm sitting using a controller. Is this the sort of laid back game that you can enjoy without being a hardcore gamer?

For reference, my kid has started playing Fortnight and I have had a little go on it too for fun. I notice IMMEDIATELY when people are using KB & Mouse controls as I would need to enter the matrix to avoid their pinpoint accuracy.

I just can't get that level of control from a gamepad but I'm not looking to move to KB & M as I'm a couch & TV gamer.

The last game that I played to completion and thoroughly enjoyed was actually COD Infinite Warfare. I've tried multiple COD titles, BF1, Battlefield 5, etc.... and I just can't keep up with the difficulty using the controller. I'm wondering if RDR2 is more story-centric and less precision accuracy dependent?

Even searching around the cheapest I can see it is £35 (£43 for ultimate) so it's not exactly a freebie :D

Side-note. Has anyone ever sold on games via Steam? I notice that you can use the Gift feature to sell games on. Never done it yet, just wondering what the thoughts are on it.

I don't have experience with either, but do you have a console? The ultimate story game at the moment I'd say is probably the Final Fantasy 7 remake. If you've played the original, the remake is supposed to be very true to it, if you haven't....... oooooooooooooooooo, it's epic! It will eventually be released on PC, but not til next year, but worth grabbing on console if you have one.

Sorry, rather off topic, I know 🤪

RDR2 has its critics and for good reason.

That being said it is one of the best games I've played in the last 10 years. The technical presentation is frankly a masterpiece.

It is also all story (unless you play the online mode) so don't worry about no longer having teenage reaction times.

Yeah, I've got a PS4 with about an inch of dust on it haha. I played FF7 YEARS ago on the PS (IIRC). I gave up when I got to the wasteland and had no idea where to go. Can't remember if that was disc 2 or 3 haha.

I did enjoy it though but it did feel repetitive. Might have a look. I couldn't tell you the last time I turned my PS4 on though, literally YEARS.

It's not so much the reaction times that fail me, it's the accelerated aiming and timing with the gamepad that I'm missing as I don't play often enough to develop any sort of decent muscle memory haha.

I'm pretty sure there is an assisted aim feature which can be adjusted to compensate for this without it feeling like it detracts from the game.

I think I'll just take a punt on it to be honest. It seems right up my street :)

There's a brief view here so you can see the improvements in the visuals. It's completely rewritten from the ground up and in Parts, so the current Part 1 only covers Midgar at the beginning but there's about 60hours gameplay just on part 1

I am desperate to play it but I want to finally complete the original. Which I have been paying on and if since 98.

Such an amazing game.... I was working security at the time and used to take in my PS1 to play it overnight. Sunk in probably over 200 hours into that game and never ever got bored!

Ah, FFVII! First game I fell in love with and like yourself, spent countless hours on it. I treat myself to a re-play of it every few years and even though it hasn't aged incredibly well I still love it. It's itched onto my memory, I have the Shinra Mansion safe code memorised so I can run straight to it and not end up hacking my own team to death when Dorky Face casts Funny Breath. NERD!

I'm currently about 4 hours into RDR2. It's a slow starter as it introduces you to all the mechanics but I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far. The graphics are incredible and playing it on the ultrawide monitor really shows off the world Rockstar have created. Can't wait until the game opens up a bit and I can really start roaming about. It's going to be a proper time sink!

I wouldn't bother with the ultimate edition, that just gives online perks. I went for the slightly cheaper special edition which comes with a couple of extra bits for the single player mode.

RDR2 is a fantastic piece of storytelling. I loved it.

If you are looking for story based games that are suited to those of us with poor reaction times you might also enjoy Witcher 3, Skyrim and Divinity 2: Original Sin.

R2D2 is a good game, couldnt put it down on the Xbox, you can smash through the story line but there's plenty of off the beaten track stuff to do. Such as capturing/killing Big Boss type animals, which in turn can be skinned etc for top of the range clothes n satchels etc. Wasn't a fan of the first 15 mins or so, but once you are out there shooting baddies (or turning yourself into one) then it gets really good. Plus you can pay for some rough looking women to give you a bath 🤣
