I am speccing a machine up and have the choice of 4x4GB or 2x8GB RAM sticks, Corsair Vengance DDR4 3000MHz. Is there any noticeable performance difference between the two options or any other reason why one is better. My preference at the moment is 2x8GB to leave room for adding more if needed.

My understanding from what I've been reading is that the performance difference between quad-channel and dual-channel RAM is almost unmeasurable, so it probably doesn't make good sense to fill all your slots for a barely measurable difference in performance. I'd be going for 2 x 8GB....

I would agree wholeheartedly.

If the motherboard is dual-channel only then afaik 2x8gb and 4x4gb would perform the same, as it wouldn't run as quad channel anyway. The main difference I've seen talked about is that the extra load on the IMC from 4x4gb could limit OCing potential, plus not having 2 slots free for potential future upgrades.
