Quick PSU question

Hi Guys,

I am currently in the process of trying to get my PSU replaced and swapped by Corsair as the one I currently have has gone and is still under warranty.

However, I did go out and purchase a new one anyway and want to know whether or not it is even going to fit as I am not sure about the fitment and installation of PSUs whatsoever.

I currently have a Corsair VS450 PSU and I bought a Corsair CX550M PSU but I am most likely going to return it.

Just wondering whether the new one would be compatible worst case as it is a different series as to what is already in there.

If anybody could let me know it would be much appreciated.

Thank you
Harry

The CX is a better quality PSU then the VS series. The CX is modular with a fixed cable for the motherboard and removable ones so you only need to add for any GPU's or other peripherals that need additional power. The mounting points are the same. The difficulty is you will have to remove all of your power cables to swap them over (you will have to do this even if you are swapping like for like. I would look at all of the power connectors you are currently using and compare them to the new ones, labelling up as you go so you can ensure everything goes back in the right place. One point to note is that sometimes the mobo connectors can be quite stiff and you need to ensure the cables are fully engaged otherwise it will not turn on.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply that all makes sense. I should be fine to swap it all out I will just take a photo before and after and ensure everything is firmly in place after the change.

Will hopefully get a replacement but if not put the CX in and see how it goes :)

Thank you
