Can I have this configuration but with socket G2 instead of socket PGA988 for better possible cpu upgrading later? From Intel site I understand the i5 2520m takes socket G2.

Regardless of the socket, the HM65 Express chipset will not support Ivy Bridge CPUs. We will not be stocking Ivy Bridge until at least March 2012, but it's likely that it will be April or May before good stock levels are available.

Update:

The 17.3" Vortex II, 17.3" Vortex 3D and 18.4" Viper III series use the HM67 Express chipset. This chipset supports Ivy Bridge using the socket G2 (PGA988B) socket.

Thanks for clarifying that PCS. Would it be possible to buy the Optimus 17.3" now- and later when Ivy bridge is common to get an Ivy Bridge motherboard and CPU from you and upgrade myself - warranty issues accepted?

This won't work unfortunately. An Ivy Bridge motherboard will not be produced the the Optimus II, you'll have to order the Optimus III.

Sometime between March and May 2012. Notebooks are usually refreshed every 12 - 15 months as the architecture moves on.

My advice: Don't worry about what's coming out in the future unless it's just around the corner - the laws of IT depict that you can only be up to date for a moment until the next technological advancement is released. :)
