question about restoring from a system image

i want to try to restore my system from an image, to try and fix the driver errors i've been getting recently. i have a system image from a year or so ago, but its on a 500GB hard drive, and my laptop has a 750GB hard drive in it.

will i be able to restore from a smaller HDD or do both drives need to be 750GB?

if your just restoring an image then it will be fine. Just remember it will wipe everything unless your installing it back onto a partition, so remember to backup anything you don't want to loose.

yeah ive backed up the documents i need on my 4GB memory stick (a few save games and my university work), with my music on my iPod which i can transfer back over (ive done it a few times before for my dads iPod when he got new laptops) afterwards.

most of the disk space is taken up by Steam and iTunes, very little is stuff that i cannot redownload.

one question though: will it create a 500GB partition and then a 250GB empty partition, or will it just put the 500GB into the full 750GB drive, as normal, which i want it to do? having a 250GB partition would be silly.
edit: google says i can just extend the C drive from 500GB to 750GB after ive restored from the backup. so ill do that :)

now to finish updating and restoring my backup documents, then see if the driver problem has been fixed!

Hurrah! Reminds me, I really do need to do a full backup of all my stuff. Been a while since I did everything fresh, got loads of stuff all over the place.

Hope you get your issue sorted anyway.

well i booted up Minecraft because it was the only think that wasn't either uninstalled or updating (turns out i only had 8 steam games installed when i backed up and they all wanted updating) and it ran just fine, albeit i only played for a minute or two.

im downloading Dark Souls 2 for a proper test. it kept crashing on me before the restore so if it works then the issue is fixed :D

edit: played an hour of Dark Souls 2, crash free at a solid 60 FPS. everything is working fine now :D
