Quad core or dual core

Would the i7 4610M dual core be able to handle current gen games or is it worth getting the next step up quad core i7 4710MQ?

For current games dual core for future proofing and future games 4 core. How much difference in price there is? It also depends on the gpu you have, I wouldn't suggest going with a GTX 970m and a dual core cpu
