We love you Ukraine
If anyone is using Honey still which is a chromium extension that gives you online codes to get money off when you check out, I’d delete your account and uninstall it quickly.
TLDR: The app was purposefully hiding the best deals for its favorite professional customers, you know, those that partnered with them and paid fees to keep on their good side
If using an affiliate code which are the ones YouTubers and others will link to under their videos (the store will give the YouTuber a percentage cut of each sale as a bonus for them advertising), Honey was ripping out the affiliate link and replacing it with their own affiliate link so they got ALL kickback payments.
This has been going on for a long time and it mainly affects YouTubers / influencers and if you’re talking of someone like Mr. Beast, that’s going to amount I’m sure to several million in stolen payments. Undoibtedly there will be many lawsuits heading Honeys way over the coming months.
Be aware, PayPal own Honey, it wasn’t that long ago PayPal announced they'd be selling user data from any PayPal account. Added with this you can see the path they’re heading down.
ALWAYS be wary of "free" products, something that garners you benefits while being touted as "free" is NOT free, they are making bundles of cash from you, usually by selling your private data (which is now the most expensive trade on the planet, far ahead of gold) and that you have no say over who is getting their hands on that data. The reason "Big Data" is so valuable is it's irrelevant just from your data, or your friends, but when you add it up to millions of data points, that combined data starts to show significantly meaningful things that can be used to influence entire countries
Be aware of the value of your personal data, and be mindful of installing anything "free".
If it's on the GNU Open Source license, especially if it's hosted somewhere like GitHub, then that's generally safe and peer reviewed also for added peace of mind.
