Finally, after waiting 19 days for the Proteus to arrive it is finally here.

Good Points -

-First off, the Laptop looks beautiful. The brushed aluminium lid really does give the laptop a more premium feel.
-The RGB keyboard feels great when typing and has good feedback to it.
-Boot times are insanely fast on the WD black SSD, couldn't be happier with this.
-Gaming performance is great, although I haven't tested it on any AAA titles yet as I'm waiting for BF V to arrive it has performed well when running World of Tanks on Ultra settings, averaging around 200fps.
-The RTX card seems to swallow up everything I have put it through so far, more testing to follow though.

Bad Points -

-The CPU gets hot... I mean real hot! I have experienced a load of spikes up to around 98C which is way way hotter than I would like. Throttling doesn't seem to be affecting the game performance but then neither does it seem to be affecting the temperatures either.
-The GPU gets up to around 82-83C which is not a bad as the CPU but still isn't great for the lifespan of the chip.
-There doesn't seem to be any control center installed for the touchpad and keyboard lighting. I was expecting some form of Quanta control centre but nothing is installed and I cant find any reference to one anywhere online.
-The touchpad sticks when using right mouse click. If I press the right mouse click and try to press the left side of the touchpad after it it tends to stick down into the chassis which is annoying during gaming, it is getting better but still not 100%.
-One of the two light strips along the front edge of the laptop doesn't appear to be working at all.

I have sent a couple of messages to PCS of which I am yet to receive a reply but I will give them a call later to see if there is anything that can be done. There may be fixes for the issues that I have experienced so far but if not then the laptop may be going back.

Suggest asking PCS about the 'control centre' equivalent for the Proteus. Perhaps it will let you control the fan profile and manage temps more? Check the downloads section of your main PCS account in case it's there too.

Those temps are very high especially on the CPU - was that just in gaming?

You could consider an undervolt

If you've not already mentioned the touchpad to PCS, I'd suggest doing so. If it's a slight fault with the unit / build you'd want that fixed for the price of the thing. Or as you say, to return it for a refund if it comes to that. Let us know how it goes.

I was given a couple of drivers to download but they don't seem to have given me access to any kind of control centre. I shall keep looking for one though.

The temps would spike to 70C when browsing and 98C whilst gaming. I used Throttlestop and applied a -140mV undervolt and now the temps are sat at 41C whilst browsing and peaked at 78C when gaming. More than happy if these results continue.

The touchpad issue seems to have resolved itself and loosened up so I am much happier with the laptop now. If I cant find a control centre for the keyboard its not the end of the world as the keyboard by default is set to many different colours which looks pretty nice.

Ran PC Mark 10 and got a score of 6095 out of it, which from my research, with the same i7-8750H processor the GTX1080 came out at 4737 as a best result in a laptop, so the RTX 2070 seems to perform well.

They have added the control centre to the driver downloads for this now. Seems to work fine apart from it complains about needing an nvidia driver on start up.

I'll have to check that out and download it later, hopefully it'll work then. Well the latest Nvidia drivers are installed so it can complain all it wants :p

Just out of curiosity MartXyz, do your gesture controls on the touchpad work? Mine don't work so I cannot scroll or pinch to zoom, I have tried downloading the drivers from the website but nothing seems to work.

hi, I downloaded the control center but I can't find the way to adjust the fan speed. Even in idle the cpu fan is stuck at 2500 rpm and is very loud. Any solution?

big3y3s - for me 2 fingers to scroll and pinch to zoom both work (in Windows at least).

wildfury - yeah the default state seems to be 2500 rpm (it does shut off for a bit every now and again) and it is a bit annoying.

Thanks for your answer. So there's no way to reduce the cpu rpm (2500) even when just browsing or during office application? :/

What do you mean by the driver downloads? Is there a list of drivers I can download somewhere?
