Hi guys just a short review on the Proteus 2 laptop. scoring each section out of 10. some photos also attached to get an idea of what it looks like. lets begin :smartass:
Appearance (6.8/10)
Not the best looking laptop on the market, its far from it. The plastic screen bezels are angled and it is quite wide making the screen look smaller than it actually is. Saying that the keyboard layout and design is very good. The saving grace of this appearance is the led functions on the track-pad and back-lit keyboard and cover.
Display (6.5/10)
The machine is fitted with a 1080p TN panel similar to the Lenovo Y50. The viewing angles are quite poor for what its worth. can be still used in a central alignment but will need adjustments also with settings.
Performance (8.8/10)
Selecting the 970m in the configurator with the i7 4720HQ it is more than capable at gaming. you will be able to play at the native resolution 1920x1080 (high-max settings depending on the frame rate you want)
Temperatures-cooling (7.9/10)
The heat produced on idle for the CPU range around 38-45 Celsius on average. when playing games such as witcher 3 the cpu temp can reach 80-90c so may need some tweaking with intel extreme tuning or something similiar to reduce the heat. The GPU heat when gaming is still fairly low ranging around the 50-60 mark on average. The fan can get quite loud when gaming.
Sound (5.5/10)
The sound is fairly standard even though it has a built in subwoofer. The speakers being pushed through grills at the front makes a cool design however does not really help the overall quality. Volume is not very high but with some setting changes some bass can be produced.
Sustainability (7.7/10)
The laptop itself is very sturdy and rigid doesn't feel cheap for a high-end gaming laptop. The screen hinge is large making the screen adjustment secure. There is however a little keyboard flex when pressed down.
price to power ratio (9.5/10)
Cannot really fault the price its fantastic
Overall it is very capable laptop for people on a power hungry money budget, definitely worth the purchase and with PC specialist upgrades to the chassis and their service makes it great for gaming or intensive applications.
