Proffessional headphones

Hi guys, I do a lot of music work and recording for youtube so I was wondering what the best headphones and mic I could get would be.
I was looking at the blue yeti for the mic.
My budget is around £120 for the headphones. The mic is any budget pretty much.
PS. That recording does not entail singing or anything like that. Just talking.

Seeing as you do a lot of music work and recording I assume you already have an external audio interface.
Sennheisers are good and so are beyers but they tend to cost quite a bit more than £120. The audio technica ath-m50s are really solid and are also quite cheap on amazon at the moment. Plenty of good reviews out there for them too if you don't trust me :) . They nearly match the sennheisers and beyers but for a lot less.
That does depend on you having a decent interface though.
I would steer clear of the blue yeti to be honest. Has a loud hiss and cracking even when using a pop filter and interface. I would go for the EV RE20 for recording.

Thanks. I'll look into these. :)
Have you got any suggestions for a good audio interface that supports at least 1 mic, 1 instrument?

It would depend on your budget again.
If price is no object then I would go RME. Check the specs of them on their website to choose the one which best suits your needs.

Sennheiser HD280s are amazing for £100. Closed back, so they can get quite warm, but have great sound isolation. On the recording forum I use, a good majority of the hobbyists there use them.

Slightly over budget, but these are excellent headphones if it's raw, uncoloured sound you're after:

.

Closed cup headphones are not usually the choice for the most accurate sound.
With open cup, though, you do have to consider the potential for overspill into the mic, so closed cup would usually be the choice for recording.
For professional quality headphones, in terms of sound quality, you are looking upwards of £200.
You won't get the full benefit of very good headphones without a suitably good headphone output/amp.

.

Two of the most popular professional spoken word mics are the Shure sm7b and the Electro Voice re20. The EV is more coloured in its sound. Those will both set you back over £300.

You don't have to spend those kinds of sums for good results though.

I should probably add I use these as field headphones too... used in studio and out and about filming. They say they're comfortable for long periods, and they are to an extent - but circumaural headphones are probably more suited for studio use. I have to say though, if it's clear, unfiltered, raw sound you're after - these are great :)

As for noise overspill... you can't hear any spill once they're on someone's head :)

I use Sennheiser HD558's (£120) and a Blue Snowball mic (£60). In terms of talking they will be more than good enough.

I think the Yeti might be a bit overkill.

Can recommend either the 280's or 380's which are available from Amazon in your budget, or the SONY PRO MDR7506 which are also worth a shout.
