Please Help NIGHTMARE DECISONS !!!!

Hi everyone,

Ok, I have gone through hell and back when spec ing a new computer. At first I wanted to be able to upgrade to 64Gb of RAM and so went for an i7-8320 however thanks to excellent feedback on this forum I have since seen the gain in performance you get from an i7-3770K (its a 10% increase in performance) and so will live with 32Gb.

The difficulty has come from the fact that now with the money I am saving on the CPU it opens up a lot more decisions. Before I was limited on choice of motherboard etc due to money.

Questions on the motherboard. I have gone for the ASUS® P8Z77-V mainly due to its built in fan controls (as it is an audio PC being able to control fan speed is a big plus). However I am open to any suggestions on other options. Also due to it being an audio PC graphics performance is just not important to me in the slightest hence am planning to use integrated graphics. The question is will this reduce the performance of the machine. If so should I just add a cheap 1 GB graphics card however I need advise on this. Finally on graphics cards is a USB adaptor the easiest and cheapest way to run 3 monitors (baring in mind I already have a usb to HDMI adaptor)

I have selected an 850W power supply so that it will hopefully run silent. I have read up that at 30% load the fan shouldnt even start up again any advise on this is welcome.

The full spec is shown below and I would appreciate any further advise or recommendations as the information people have given has been sooo helpful.

The motherboard you have chosen will be fine. If you're going to be running three monitors it would probably be better to add a GPU that offers multi-monitor support. How much could you afford on a GPU? And I'd recommend upgrading to the 850W Corsair HX850-80 Modular PSU if you want quieter operation.

Will have a look at the psu now. Within reason money isn't an issue. It's more I don't want to spend money for no real gain. 3 monitors is a bit in the future so I guess I could always upgrade then. How much is it for a GPu that supports 3 monitors. In the meantime does integrated graphics reduce performance of the system in which case I will add the cheapest possible graphics card now. Literally it's no gaming no explosions just running the graphics of my DAW which is no more graphics intensive than Microsoft word.

Add an HD6670, they're about £40 or so and will at least give your graphics some dedicated resources and leave the processor to do its thing. I think Radeon GPUs start supporting multi-monitor setups at the HD7770, I'm not sure about the GTX cards.
