Hi, so I'm going to be using it for mainly Sony Vegas, maybe some times some Adobe programs, I have a rough budget of £900, I'm not bothered about gaming or anything, I just want the quickest rendering times, mu current laptop has an i5 and 6gb Ram, so I'm not sure which parts are the most important because this is pretty slow, I won't be overclocking or anything like that this is what I came up with:

Most important factors are processor speed and plenty of RAM. A nice quick HDD adds a little bit to some aspects but it's the most important factor.

Do you know what model of i5 you have is it an i5xxx or an i5xxxx. If its an i5xxx and a dual core model then you could be running into problems with rendering video. Video rendering does take a while almost no matter what but if you have a 1st generation i5 dual core then you will get a huge speed boost from an i7 3770.

overall it looks good, the GPU might help with some aspects of photoshop if your into that in any way. It will also play games at decent settings should you want to for any reason.

Thanks for the reply, all I know is it's an i5-480M? I just want something that will still serve me well in a few years time, so I can convince dad it's a good idea! So I just want some general idea's, is there anything you would upgrade or downgrade? I also changed the Graphics card (is that the gpu?) to the 2GB Version? I thought that might help, I just a point in the right direction. Like I said it's my first time so I'm just guessing and don't really know what does what!

Yes, the GPU is the graphics card. My understanding is that for the programmes you mention you need to look at the cuda cores rather than the vram (memory from the graphics card), I would stick with the 1gb version.

The build you posted is very good for what you want to do,I wouldn't change anything on it.
The 2GB graphics card would only really help if you wanted to use more monitors.
Don't forget silver warranty for £5.

Thanks, Yeah I posted at the end saying I forgot :(

I may get a second monitor, so I wasn't sure, and with me wanting it too last I thought it might be helpful, would you change anything else for the fastest rendering?

An SSD would probably improve things speed wise.

I don't know much about SSD's, what are they? Apart from a lot faster

It will help windows boot faster as well as Adobe programmes, here is a list of benefits:

What about cases? Does any work, do you just sent it to PCS? I found this looks pretty good (I don't really like any of the ones on the website?)

You can send your own case, you just need to select "send in your own case" when selecting a case in the configurator, there are some instructions and requirements you need to follow.

Thanks Ruben!

I think I'll just get the 120GB SSD, and a 500GB Black Caviar!

+ About the case it's easier to just get one from the website, I liked the Coolmaster Sileo quiet, because it said it's for video editing but I don't know which would you recommend for fans and that, so that it lasts?

Oh and what about homeplugs? I went for the 2 homeplugs or are they for gaming?

It is a more reliable alternative to a wireless card. You need to buy a pair and connect to a socket, one next to the router and another one next to the pc.

No idea on specifics as it would depend on exactly what your doing.

A couple of points

One thing i missed from your first spec is the RAM speed. Drop that to 1600Mhz maximum, even the 1333Mhz stuff is fine if your not overclocking. The super fast stuff is really pointless for you to be honest, i'm not sure how much more it adds to your spec but it's not worth it.

The other point is regarding the i5-480M vs the 3770. The 480m is dual core and it's now pretty much impossible to buy anything that slow, the 3770 your getting is about 4 times the speed from the benchmarks. Your overall rendering speed might be a bit faster than that if anything else was bottlenecking your system before. However without looking at spending silly money you wont get a much faster machine.

Thanks for the reply, the ram is the same price, so I thought I might as well go for the quickest stuff, Okay thanks for the advice, think I'll be sticking with this then!

The super fast stuff can be unstable, not sure if that has any effect when it's running at 1333Mhz (like it will be when you recieve it i think) but really no point at all in having it. I really mean 0% performance gain with the risk of instability if you do push it to the higher clocks. I believe it comes set to 1333Mhz anyway as it is really only a benefit to overclockers to have it set higher.
