Ok, to hone down on a more specific question....

I am pretty happy with the processor and graphics choice but not quite sure about case/power supply/cooling system. Are the latter suitable?

Sorry we missed this, but at least you had the forethought to bump it so we did see it eventually.

If you can wait a couple of weeks then both the new 5070Ti and Ryzen 9 9900X3D/9950X3D processors will be out, so you might get a bigger bang for your buck.

If you can’t wait, the 9900X has a decent performance uplift over the 7900X.

But to balance this relatively powerful build that might be used for prolonged periods, I’d want a better quality, newer ATX3.1 spec PSU…something like the 850RMx…and a TUF or Eagle level motherboard with the better quality components.

The website recommended that the 850RMx is overkill? It calculated that the power consumption is about 450W + another 20% to be safe. Does this sound correct to you?

That's the minimum requirement based on the published power figures for the CPU and GPU, and we know those figures can be wildly inaccurate and won't allow for CPU/GPU upgrades in a few year's time.

It's much easier and cost-effective to pay £50 more now on a high-end ATX3.1 PSU (even the RM850W one is ATX3.1 now) than spend £100 on one now and £150 on one when you want a GPU upgrade.

A lower power one also means you'd risk operating outside its peak efficiency window of 40-60%.
