Optimus VII won't turn on at all

Hi all,

This evening while browsing the internet my 1 year old Optimus VII beeped (like a bios beep i think) and then instantly shut down. The laptop will no longer turn on, when I press the power button the LED underneath it comes on for a few seconds but nothing on the screen and no fans.

I've tried with and without power cable plugged in and have also pulled the battery and replaced it to no avail.

I've logged a support call with PCS, just thought I would see if anybody has had the same issue or any suggestions?

My first thought would be overheating, especially if you've not cleaned the dust and muck out of the insides since you've had it. Try leaving it powered off and in a cool place for 24 hours and see whether it will start then. If it does switch it off immediately, open up the case and give it a good clean paying particular attention to the fan and the finned heat exchanger right next to it. This must be completely clean.

Sounds like a component failure, could be anything but most probably something went bang on the motherboard. if the light is showing, even for a short time, you have power but the motherboard is probably encountering a problem while booting the system and just shuts off.

PCS is probably the best bet as they can arrange a repair.
