Optimus VII Problems-Caused by Windows 8.1?

I received my Optimus VII without an OS around a week ago and installed Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Pro through DreamSpark. The laptop runs quite well and quick but there are a number of big problems. The laptop won't shut down/restart, the screen just goes black but the keyboard lights remain and the laptop is still running so my only way of turning off is through a hard shutdown. The same thing happens when I close the lid despite changing the settings to sleep when the lid is closed. The laptop just freezes and needs a hard shut down when I press certain keys such as brightness keys, and it also freezes if turned on while plugged in and then plugged out/plugged out and plugged in. Applications such as Steam and Hearthstone wont run.
Also the laptop gets very hot (in my opinion, this is the only "good" laptop I've ever had and I just expected it wouldn't get so hot on just normal browsing/youtube!!) but this may be normal, I'm not sure. It doesn't seem to affect performance it's just the whole laptop including keys gets noticeably hot.

Are all of these problems more than likely due to the windows OS I'm using? Is there a way to fix this and continue using 8.1? I have a Windows 7 key which I've thought about trying to use but if there is an easier fix and a way to keep using 8 I'd rather do that.

Cheers!

Why are you using embedded? Many things won't run properly on embedded, it's designed for always on PCs on old architecture.

Sorry for the late reply been busy, simply using it as I'm a student and is available for free and I read around that it was apparently as good as normal 8.1.

I'm trying to install Windows 7 via USB here but I'm having some trouble if you/anyone could help. I've entered the BIOS Menu through "PC Settings" and have changed the boot order to my USB with a Windows 7 ISO copied onto it. Should UEFI be enabled or disabled in the BIOS?

With UEFI disabled and if I just let the startup run I get a black screen with "BOOTMGR is missing". If i press F7 for boot options and pick my USB, the first screen after clicking "Install Now" I get is "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a drover floppy disk, CD, DVD or USB please insert it now" even though the USB is plugged in.
With UEFI enabled and mashing F7 on startup and picking my USB, a black screen with "Reboot and select proper boot device or Insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key."
Total computer noobie here wishing I just coughed up the few euro for Windows 10 lol!

When you say "a windows 7 iso copied onto it", did you just copy the iso onto the key or did you use a program to created a bootable usb? You'll need to use something like windows media creation tool or windows 7 usb download tool both from microsoft to create a bootable key.

Then in the bios, turn off UEFI (it causes more problems than it solves) and boot from the usb. Then once windows is installed you'll have to install all drivers which you can get either from logging into the PCS main website and going to the downloads section, or by going to www.clevo.com.tw.

Ok this is the third thread I've seen about 6th gen CPUs / Win7 / drivers. SpyderTracks is correct about creating a bootable usb, however you'll find you will encounter a further error during installation due to the usb 3 ports and you'll also notice that neither PCS nor clevo provide W7 drivers.

However, I have W7 working flawlessly on my new Optimus VII and will create a tutorial thread tonight about how.
