Optimus VII Not Switching On

My laptop won't switch on, the screen is on but it's black and it flashes every now and then just fuzziness for like a second. Not sure why this is happening or how to fix it. It started after I put the screen down and put it on standby. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Take the battery out and remove the mains power cord. Hold the ON button down for 60 seconds (nothing exciting will happen!). Now plug in the mains power but leave the battery out. Switch on and see whether it boots normally. If it does then shutdown, replace the battery and reboot again.
