Optimus VII 2nd hard drive not working

Hi all,

First post here, just received my new Optimus VII 17.3" laptop a few days ago and all has been great so far (really really impressed with it), except I just noticed that the second hard drive that should be installed in my laptop isn't showing in My Computer. The primary drive is an SSD which is working fine. I went into disk manager and could see a 938GB drive which was formatted as RAW, so I attempted to format it but the format failed (tried quick format and proper format).

Since then, I can no longer see it in Windows disk manager and have been into my BIOS where the SSD shows in the second SATA slot, but nothing shows in the first or third slot.

Is there anything I can do? I'm thinking that I've either got a broken hard-drive or theres a cable somewhere not plugged in properly. It seems strange that it used to detect it but no longer will.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't know what you could try or I don't know if you've sorted it out but this is what I would do:

Option 1). Take it out and get a SATA to USB adapter (search Amazon, it's cheap) and plug it into your computer via USB and try to format it that way.

Option 2). I assume that when you said "Windows Disk Manager", you meant "Disk Management". If you can see the drive again somehow, why not try changing the drive letter? It could be that some other drive that you have already uses that drive letter and the two drive "clashes".

And I believe if a cable is not plugged in properly then it would not come up in the BIOS in the first place. I shall also assume that your second drive is a HDD as you clearly state that your primary drive is an SSD.

Or ignore my stupid Option 2). entirely and have a look at this instead: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/278914-32-recover-drive-format#6038166 (Paperdoc's Post)

Or contact PCS...

I think you should call us so we can check for a software fault and if there ins't one we can replace the drive although I do think I have already emailed you saying that but I am unsure if that was you or not.

I contacted support and they straight away concluded that the hard-drive must have been faulty without checking anything else and they sent a new one out which was delivered very quickly and now works.
Interestingly, the original HD was a brand I'm unfamiliar with (HGST?) and the replacement that was sent was a samsung.

Thanks for the replies anyway.
