Optimus V - new fan grinding noise

Since getting an optimus v (about a year and a couple of month ago) the fan has been amazing, silent, and when it does spool up, it was never as loud or noisey as some of the reviews back then made it sound, it was what i expected of a laptop while gaming.

The past couple of weeks the fan has been making a light grinding noise, and now today it has suddenly gotten a lot worse. I have opened it up and had a look (and removed quite a few lumps of dust from the heatsink) and i cant see that it's hitting anything or getting caught, there is nothing trapped around the motor at all. I'm a bit lost at what to do.

The faster it spins, the louder and worse the noise gets, and you can noticably feel the vibrations of it (and they get worse the faster it spins as well), like maybe it's not as secure as it first was.

Any ideas? - I've thought about maybe applying a bit of grease or something but i don't have any to hand at the moment.

Probably the bearing has gone, I doubt greasing it will help much if at all. You may well need a replacement, best place to get one is probably by calling PCS

Just as a further note, on a gaming laptop, you need to open it up and clean out the dust buildup at least once a year or it will start to wear the fans and increase temperatures which will in turn reduce the life of the system.

Its the ballbearing going. It happened to me after a year of use too. Order a new one from here. Its really cheap and really easy to replace yourself.
