Optimus V laptop - HDMI output not supporting sound!

Hi,

I have a Optimus V laptop and was interested in using the HDMI output. When I connected it to my tv I got the vision but the sound went through the laptop.

I have read mixed information on PC and HDMI (not on this site) i.e. HDMI does not always support sound and you need to use your PC headphone or aux socket.

What is the case with the Optimus? What do I need to configure to get HDMI to support sound?

Oh - I am using Windows 8.1

Thanks
Jason

My understanding of HDMI is that it (ie the cable) can always carry sound and its potentially the way the rig is set up that might prevent this. You should be able to set the sound output to HDMI however in the sound options, if you right click the speaker and go into playback devices, one of the options which appears should be the HDMI output (it might be displayed as your TV) just select this and make it default audio device.

I do this for my media PC in the living room so hopefully it'll work the same with a laptop.

it will be a setting in the sound options somewhere, fire up the sound control panel and see if it lists the TV effectively as a set of speakers. You may have it set to always use the laptop speakers.

go to start menu, type manage audio devices, click on it and choose the HDMI audio out and set it as the default device. Enjoy :)
