Optimus V - Has anyone updated to latest nVidia GPU driver? (320.49)

Hi,

I updated the graphics driver for the GTX 765M yesterday (driver version now 9.18.13.2049) but I am now finding that I am unable to get audio through my HDMI output. The video is working fine but under the audio playback devices it says "not plugged in" for Digital Audio (HDMI) and LG TV (see pic). Screenshot (4).png

I know the audio was working when I received the laptop as I tried it so it doesn't look like a hardware issue. I'm wondering whether its the nVidia driver update thats caused the issue or something else I might have done. Has anyone else updated to this driver and able to confirm whether you have this issue or not so I know if its just me or an issue with the driver?? I should say I'm running windows 8 64 bit.

Many Thanks,

Adam

Well I've reverted back to the original driver and the issue is still there so I'm now wondering if there is an issue with the laptop :/

I get the exact same error message on my AMD so i think the problem is on windows 8 somewhere.

My work computer runs the same driver with windows 7 and the problem dose not exist there.

I dont even know where to start with that one to be honest.

I have to say it's driven me to distraction a bit!! I've tried everything - disabling the device, enabling the device, uninstalling, reinstalling, i removed all the audio and video drivers then reinstalled the video drivers and then the audio drivers and nothing is working!

I think one clue is that in the nvidia drivers release notes it states "Installs HD Audio v1.3.24.2" however when the installation takes place it doesn't appear to install those drivers I only get "nvidia graphics driver" and "nvidia physx" and "nvidia update". And looking at the HD audio device in device manager it is just using the default microsoft drivers..... But even trying to get it to update it manually doesn't work.

Yeah i tried for a couple of days trying to get it working doing exactly what you've described but with no luck. Ended up getting an optical cable and putting it through my cinema system but its annoying when i take my laptop and cant use its audio through the HDMI.

It's madness! Searches through google throw up the issue again and again - and apart from those who have had easy fixes (like the device was disabled for some reason) no-one seems to be able to solve the issue other than using another cable as you say!! It seems like once it strikes - thats it! There's no fixing it.......

I could send it back for repair but I've just spent the last few days getting it all set up and transferring everything over from my last pc so that idea doesn't fill me with joy as I would likely have to start all over again :/ so i'm wondering if I should just live with it - but for me it is a BIG issue as I watch a lot of movies/tv through the HDMI. bugger.

I wouldn't send it back as im pretty sure this is a software related issue.

You could give PCS a call and see if they have had any solutions with it at all. As they do sell the laptops with Windows 8 installed so it must be working however if it works with the divers they ship with it they may say to stick with that GPU driver, im honestly not sure.
