Optimus IV - Secondary HDD click, still works?

My Optimus IV has been going strong up until now, the little power house that it is. I have an SSD and HDD in it, problem is in the last 4 or so weeks the laptop has been making a distinctive clicking sound every now and again for about 3 seconds (presumably when it tries to spin up?) that reminds me of a HDD about to fail. :( Now, maybe there are others out there who have this model laptop with the same problem and can provide further insight into this otherwise, I may have to backup all my stuff on my NAS quickly before disaster strikes. What's the story for hard drive failure? Can I request an RMA for a specific part or do I have to send the whole thing back? (I can fit the drive NP). Just don't want to be without a laptop with my Thesis and Xmas around the corner! :santa:

Spec:
Optimus IV 15.6"
Intel i7 3630QM
1x8 GB RAM
120GB Intel SSD
500GB Western Digital 7200 RPM
Nvidia Geforce GTX 660M 2GB

So long as it's still within your warranty, you should be able to just send the drive back and they'll post you a replacement.

Western digital have an hdd tools download in the drivers section which includes smart monitoring, you could install that and it'll tell you if there's something wrong physically with the disc. Does sound like the beginnings of a failure though to me.

Whilst agreeing with SpyderTracks, it could possibly simply be a badly fragmented disk and what you're hearing are long seeks. Try running a defrag on the drive if you haven't already. I'd also run chkdsk on it too.
