If i order a PC with no operating system... (as i already have a copy of windows 7 ultimate) How will PC specialist check if the pc is.. working correctly and everything? will they not install the drivers and just give me the disks to do it??

They will install windows on there, when you recieve it it just wont be active, you just need to wipe the hard drive and install the OS of your choice

EDIT: They install windows so they can test the system. I presume you could get them to install the same version that you have and enter your own licence details when you recieve it. Im not entirely sure though.

aah! that would be helpful! :L but when my friend received his PC from PC Specialist a couple days ago.. (thursday).. It asked for the product key.. and we couldn't find it anywhere! :S we didn't really know what to do.. and were just about to ring up pc specialist.. when we saw the skip button? :L so we just pressed skip and it was fine?... either we did something wrong or there's a RAELLY big flaw in the system :L

I think you can use windows (at least for a while) if it's not licensed. I may be wrong as all I have is a vague flashback of the same thing happening with XP years ago. Eventually programs such as windows media player etc. didn't work

Well if he ordered it with an OS then the product key would be on a sticker on the side/ back of the pc (normally a shiny looking rectangualr sticker). If he didnt order an OS with it then the OS installed was just for testing purposes and you wouldnt have recieved a product key.

If you order a system without an OS from what i have seen on older posts about this they install a trial version that lasts for 30 days just to test the machine so when you recieve it you need to do a clean install.

It's very unlikely your friends OS will be activated,
the key should be on the back of the PC.

Normally products that arent activated are either limited in functionality / time or both. Vista actually failed miserably as it just locked out the desktop, however if you knew how to load programs from command prompt you could do anything you like as you could access stuff through the browser then load the terminal :) WIN. lol

But yeah he will probably find it locks itself out after maybe 30 days or some other short trial period.
