Hi

I have only 31GB of space left on my SSD.

Currently I have used the ssd drive for the windows 7 OS only.

Should I upgrade to a larger SSD?

Which make/brand of SSD should I buy?

I may also buy a new PC later next year.

My current set up is below:

Memory (RAM) 8GB SAMSUNG DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz (2 X 4GB)
Graphics Card 2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 670 - 2 DVI, HDMI, DP - 3D Vision Ready
Memory - 1st Hard Disk 120GB KINGSTON HYPERX 3K SSD, SATA 6 Gb/s (upto 555MB/sR |

Its really up to you to decide if you should upgrade - its dependent on whether you want to use the SSD for anything other than the OS really.

As for brand the Samsung 850 pro (and non pro) are good SSD's in my opinion.

If you were to get a new SSD for your current rig I'd recommend adding it as a secondary drive rather than trying to replace your SSD currently installed. But if you're planning on a new rig anyway you could maybe just wait till you're ready to purchase that?

You should leave about 10% of an SSD empty. But if you have 31GB left I wouldn't upgrade just for the sake of the OS until you get close to that 10% left. You are some way off that now.
Run System Cleanup and also use something like WinDirStat to see if you have any chunks of stuff that you don't need.

I'd agree with this, SSDs don't suffer from over-filling in the same way HDDs do, though you can't fill them up. 10% free is a good suggestion.

How on earth is does your 120GB SSD have only 31GB free with ONLY Windows 7 installed on it?

Windows 7 with a single restore point should only use around 25GB.

I would suggest the following things:

Right click Recycle Bin>Properties and reduce how much is allocated on C:
Reduce the percentage reserved for system restore points.
Go MY Computer>C Drive>Properties and Disk clean up tab>Clean up system files and tag all and ok.
Right click My computer>Properties>Advanced Tab>Performance>settings>advanced>Virtual memory and move it to another drive.

Did you upgrade to Windows 7 from a previous windows? If so it may still have the old windows backup on it.

No way in hell a 120GB Drive should be filled up with just windows and system programs if you move said programs work folder to another drive ie: Maya or Photoshop. People who claim you need a 240GB SSD for your windows drive are talking out of their err hats.
