I love pedantry. I heard a long time ago about what happened when the Atomic Energy Research Establishment at Harwell was made non-smoking. To stop people smoking in the toilets they put a sign on the inside of each toilet door that said This building has been designated a no smoking area. You have to remember that place is full of strange people with no interpersonal skills and several PhDs each. Some wag had crossed out the word area on each of the signs and replaced it with the word volume.
