NVidia Strongarming YouTube reviewers

This is downright dangerous.

NVidia have officially notified HardwareUnboxed that they won’t be receiving any review samples from now on because they don’t share nvidias view of Ray Tracing and other technologies.

For those that don’t know, HardwareUnboxed are incredible tech reviewers. Their GPU, CPU and monitor testing methodologies are some of the most thorough and accurate out there and they are highly esteemed in the tech world.

Yep this is getting to be a various trend.

If the reviews on You Tube become basically ‘All hail this product xxx it’s amazing’reviews.

it’s already standard practice that ‘you only get a product, if you give a positive ‘ for a lot of reviewers, admittedly some of the oxygen stealing You tubers tend to take the lead on positive reviews on garbage.

Amazon reviews are already a mockery on just how fake they are, the number of 5 start reviews lol.

This story and what MSI have been up to sort of points to online reviews being factually interfered with.

it’s not first time NVIDIA have been fingered over this sort of thing.

Added new video from Jayz2Cents

Just popped on twitter, the storm that's brewing against NVidia is good to see, needs to happen, this can't be condoned and they need some consequences from this!

Jay often gets accused of being an Nvidia fanboy, so it's nice to see him come out in support of HardwareUnboxed. I'm glad to see that Nvidia have stepped down, but it's ridiculous that it got to that stage in the first place.
Yeah, I don’t like that Jay is called a fan boy, I’ve certainly not experienced him like that. I really rate him, tends to look at things from both sides.

That was one heck of a trainwreck email they sent to Hardware Unboxed. Sheer arrogance from Nvidia. They made the right decision with the apology, but seems to me that it's no more then a damage control measure taken to address their stupid mistake that could of lead to further backlash if left unchecked.

Absolutely. If it was truly coming from a place of "that person was not speaking in the interests of the company" you would expect a very public notification that the person who sent the original email was immediately sacked.

Not the most convincing of an apology email from Nvidia.
This whole fiasco hurt Nvidia more then Hardware Unboxed. Hardware Unboxed. I'm sure the they have gained a few more subscribers since then.
I suspose this PR fiasco takes some of the attention off the PR fiasco that has been the lack of 3000 series supply... 🤔

A personal apology by the PR exec who issued the first email... still not enough IMHO, if it weren’t for the public backlash, I doubt they’d have backed down:

Sounds like some serious dressing down happened behind the scenes for those in Nvidia PR debacle.
I really hope that they can turn things around by first by not strongarming tech jornalists and to be more receptive to constructive criticism that may help them improve on their next GPU product, rather then finding new ways to do the same sort of nonsense again in the near future.

That has all the signs of having been written for him by the PR department. He was likely told to sign that or his resignation!
If only he'd read the first email (which was probably written for him by the marketing department) before sending it, all of this could probably have been avoided.

I would bet everything up to the shirt on my back that it was exactly the case 😂

It's still a very wise move though as PR departments need to tread carefully on the whole right now. The world is a cauldron.

I don't think he is a fanboy now..... but I most definitely did.

I think my skew came from the fact that when he likes something, he puts sooooo much effort in to back his opinion with positive slight on his reasoning, he casts out anything even remotely lesser than it.

Case and point, last year with the whole Intel vs AMD video. I watched that and I couldn't fathom his justification at all. His opinion seems to forget that most people pay hard earned money for these components and having a well oiled machine with a future potential is FAR more important than what is best at this precise microsecond. His opinion seems to follow the wind at times as tech is moving so fast, and his reasoning for his opinion changes as well, rather than being consistent.

I much prefer the likes of Hardware unboxed and Gamers Nexus as they are not only, for the most part, completely objective, they also keep a consistent reasoning pattern behind their decision making.

I find Linus and Jay a bit more hap hazard and excitable with their reasoning, they do tend to forget that they get most of their hardware for free and will continue to get the latest and greatest as it is released. People spending the money are looking to get a number of years out of their systems without having to splurge every time they jump ship to the latest and "greatest" tech.

Testing an Intel CPU on an Epic motherboard with 4600mhz RAM with an overclocked 3090 and claiming Intel to be the best gaming CPU doesn't make for a responsible and considered opinion..... IMO. I get it, I do, it's the same as the reasoning behind going for worst case with the settings to hammer the GPUs..... but there needs to be a realisation of these limitations when it comes to the recommendation and description. This way of reviewing is, IMO, the reason why there is SOOOOO much misunderstanding in the lesser tech minded community.

No company should be able to dictate how a product is reviewed.
nvidia has to understand that tech sites are not extensions to their marketing department.
They fully deserved this backlash.
