i was just fiddling nvidia application on my laptop and found this "power management mode" and it's on "adaptive".
if i set this to "prefer maximum performance" would the gpu runs hot all the time???
why wrong forum? it's a laptop, and it's a technical question? x3
the answer is no, it won't run hot all the time, what Nvidias software (Powermizer, i think?) does, is it automatically adjusts the GPU's power draw to the conditions, if you're plugged into a wall socket, it's max performance, if you're on battery power, the GPU winds down a bit to conserve power and extend the life of your battery.
the GPU will run as hot as you make it, if you set it to max performance and play games yes it will run hot, but if you keep it on adaptive, the card will not be running at full power, less power draw, less performance, less heat, even on max performance if the GPU isn't being actively used it's not going to run much (if any) hotter than it usually does, from my experience.
Ultimately, when plugged in it won't make any difference, it defaults to max power when in an AC socket anyway, just think of it as a "limiter", it'll stop you draining your battery in 15 minutes flat (unless you want it to.. x3)
