One for the musicians out there to hopefully lend me a bit of guidance on...

I’ve been creating music for years, using just guitars and a selection of effects pedals. Thanks to the pedals I’ve acquired, I’m a guitarist, drummer, organist, sitar player and string section. But lately I’ve been looking at something to add a bit of versatility and texture to my tracks. And I don’t know if bored is the right word, but I feel as though I’m kind of ‘done’ with Cubase.

I’ve happened upon the Novation Launchkey Mini Mk 3 and wonder if this might be the right thing for me. Also comes bundled with Ableton Live Lite so that might drag me out of my comfort zone and give me a bit of inspiration and drive.

So, those of you with any experience of both Novation products and Ableton Live Lite... thoughts?

I haven’t used the keyboard but have heard of novation and they have a good name.

Another option is the Native Instruments Komplete Control M32 which is a similar product around the same price and also comes with Ableton Live 10 Lite:

In my opinion Native Instruments do some of the most appealing plugins and hardware tools in the business, the integration with any DAW is second to none and support is superb. I have the bigger S49 keyboard and it’s incredible.

I’ve also just moved to Ableton 10 from Logic ProX on Mac, purely because I got fed up with intel Macs and thought I’d give it a try while I wait for the Apple Silicon products to get settled.

I have to say I’m very pleasantly surprised by Ableton, it’s easily as good as logic and in some areas far better. I would definitely recommend.

Another option I hear a lot about is Reaper although haven’t used it personally.
