So a friend has sent me a link to install Norton Deluxe 360 on my laptop as they have 5 licenses. Is this safe? I’m not sure if I can trust them. From what I’ve read in Norton, you can set parental controls and can monitor what sites have been visited and even store passwords through the password manager etc. How do I know I’ve not been listed as a child rather than an adult and they’re monitoring me?

Just user Windows Defender

if you trust your friend that little you don't want to be accepting gifts from them, even if genuine.

And Windows Defender is more than fine.

I agree with the above. There is no need for general users to install additional security software, Windows firewall and Defender are more than good enough.

I think you'll also find that the 5 computers license that your friend has is for up to 5 computers that he/she owns. I'm pretty sure that he/she is not allowed under the terms of the Norton license to simply give away four copes for free.....

Thank you for the advice both. Is it possible then for someone to buy Norton and list someone as a child and then monitor their every move on a computer even though they’re an adult? That’s a bit worrying

I don’t understand the question? It’s just antivirus, it doesn’t do any form of tracking.

Norton Deluxe 360 has parental control included. Say you have a 5 user license, you can send links to others so they can download it onto their own device. You can create profiles for each person who have it on their device. I believe you can enter a date of birth for each person/ profile and then restrict certain things such as certain websites, put time limits on web time etc. You can also find out what websites they’ve visited and what they’ve written in search bars etc. Now I’ve nothing to hide and there’s nothing even vaguely interesting about my internet browsing, it’s the principle I don’t agree with as I think it could be abused by people wanting to spy on others. You can also save all passwords and I’m wondering if these are stored in the same ‘vault’ as the person with the ‘supervisory’ account. I have never bought Norton Deluxe 360 to know how easy it is to be abused, but I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has and has actually used the parental control feature

It's under the same account, so yes, all that would be a factor. But as said previously, it's illegal to use a license from someone's personal account, so it's not an issue anyway.

That's aside from the fact that Norton is utter garbage and built in windows defender trumps it most of the time. There is no need for 3rd party anti virus on windows.

I'm going to lock this thread as we can't discuss pirating or illegal software warez.
