New vortex 3 niggles

Hi guys,

Had my new vortex 3 delivered in under 2 weeks from order date which was excellent , thank you.

Only had a chance to have a quick look so far but 2 things I need help with:

1. The laptop can only see my ssd C drive and cannot see my 750gb storage HD. I can see it in device manager but my PC skills are limited. How do I get it to see my 2nd hd ? Btw it's had a smal 100mb Parton made labelled "E" but the the main bulk of the HD IS SHOWING AS "not allocated".

2. Is there any other method of brightening the screen apart from from the fn keys ? as I have it on max and it's only just bright enough in my room late at night. The control centre thing mentioned in the booklet doesn't seem to be installed and can't see anything like it on the utility discs.

Thanks in advance. Will be posting a more indepth review once I've had a chance to really see what it can do !

Check in disk management to see if the drive is showing there,
click "Start"/right click"computer"/Manage/under "Storage"select "Disk Management",
or click "start" and type diskmgmt.msc in search box.
It's possible you only need to assign a Drive letter,
to do this right click on the bar of the drive in the lower half of the screen,
select "change drive letter and paths"
click on the Add button in the next menu and pick a drive letter.
Click ok to assign selected drive letter or choose your own letter (one thats not already being used)from the drop down menu.
If the drive is showing as unallocated,
right click on the black bar of the "unallocated drive",
click on "new simple volume"then follow the wizard.
check in "computer" to confirm missing drive is showing.
If it's not showing in disk management, check the drive isn't disabled in bios settings,
If it's not showing in bios, check the hard drive hasn't come loose in transit.

For the brightness what power mode do you have the laptop in? I think and i might be wrong but if the laptop is in power saver the brightness will not increase beyond a certain level.

If you click the battery at the botom left in the task bar it should show power options select balanced or go into advanced and select full power you should be able to increase the brightness further

Hi guys, thanks for your replies.

Vanthas I'm at work atm but will try when I get home although the odd thing is I did try and select a drive letter but D letter was missing from the list !

Smokey I've already put it on performance mode so I'm kinda concerned now at the brightness level available.

Any other things I can try ?

Thanks

Odds are it has allocated D to your optical drive. You would need to reassign that to a different letter first, then D will become available in the list.

You can choose any drive letter as long as it's not already used,
if it's showing as unallocated in disk management you will most like need to
right click on the black bar and click on "new simple volume"then follow the wizard.

Ok Smokey there was another slider control for brightness on the power options page which wasn't set to max so thank you for that Sir.

Vanthas many thanks I've followed your instructions and I now have the portion showing up BUT I still have this odd partition that I assume PC Specialists have set up its called

" System Reserved 'E' 100MB NTFS "

I mean do I need this partition and if so how do I hide it ?

Thanks

You need this partition, but it shouldn't be showing in "computer" only in disk management,
if it's not showing in"computer" dont worry about it,if it is showing in "computer" I would recommend you do a clean install, instructions are given in the welcome booklet.
If you do a clean install make sure you delete all partitions.
Edit : lol,the post I answered has disappeared.

Lol how odd ! But really appreciate your help Vanthus :)

Yes unfortunately the 100MB NTFS partition is showing in My Computer which is a pain if I have to reinstall everything as I'm pretty crap at doing this kinda thing .

Any other way round this anyone ?

If you right click on the bar of system reserved partition in disk management & select "Change Drive Letter and Paths"then select "Remove" this should hide the partition. The system reserved partition should really be on the OS drive but apparently quite a few users have it set up like yours is and have no problems.
