New system or new graphics card only?

Hi

Purchased this PC in 2010 and it has served me well. Have since increased RAM to 12GB and replaced the Graphics card with a 3gb Radeon 7950 hd card.

PC is used almost entirely for gaming and I'm noticing Im having to turn down some settings on some games now. I was considering upgrading the graphics card again, possibly an 8gb radeon r9 390 card but am wondering whether I need to consider changing the Power supply also as on the pc specialist upgrade options it is prompting me to consider more power. Preference is not to spend more money on a PSU if possible.

Question is, if I am changing power and graphics at circa £400 am I moving into the realms of changing the whole system or would the remainder of the parts (processor/motherboard etc) still be sufficient with a new card?

Any feedback would be appreciated

Really depends how much you could liberate to spend on a new rig.

I'd be slightly worried its the CPU that may be holding you back, but that depends what games you play and whether they are CPU limited or not. The i7 you have is fairly old now and the clock speed might be a rough on the low side for some games.

Get a new graphics card, stick it in and see how it goes. If it's not up to scratch then you've already got a new card for your next rig. No money wasted.
