Hello All,

After close to seven years, I decided to get a new laptop. I had a great experience with PCS seven years ago, so I came back and decided to treat myself with a gaming laptop. Probably overkilling it:

The machine is currently in pre-production and I have today changed the SSDs after a quick look at the forum (as, in a very out of character impulse, I bought first and check the forum later). I would be grateful for any advice on how to set up windows (or anything else, really) to fully enjoy the laptop while playing. I am also growing concerned that I might need to get an external cooling unit, which I would like to buy a bit later, so any specific advice on the ideal settings without cooling unit, I would be super grateful. I am an enthusiastic noob, who probably just loved the idea that I had enough savings to get the most powerful machine that PCS could make, for not good reasons. If you could help me feeling better about myself you will have my gratitude!

I really wouldn’t buy this, I would cancel, this is right at the end of the current prodict cycle with new chassis with new GPUs being announced at CES in the first week of January.

Those Intel CPUs are also architecturally flawed and are subject to quick deterioration resulting in instability with the only fix being to replace the CPUs.

That’s even more likely if you’re using it without the water cooler as it will be permanently thermal throttling.

I would wait a month and a half until the new chassis are out

I am not entirely surprised by the reply, and super grateful.

Ok, I will cancel the order and wait for the new chassis so to invest on something worth the price. I am curious, though (and, again, sorry for the noob-level question), you mentioned that the intel CPUs are architecturally flawed. What would you suggest should be a build for someone like me, looking for a great gaming laptop, but not necessarily tech-savy? Once the new chassis will be out, I mean.

Thank you again!

An AMD chassis, they perform just as well but can actually be cooled, use substantially less power and don’t degrade

Ok, I will wait for the new chassis to come out and will go for an AMD one. I noticed that, at the moment, when it comes to graphics card, the available AMD chassis can get up to the 4060 If I understand what you are saying, I shouldn't worry too much about getting the newest card, though, as an AMD build will allow me to be a happy gamer with whatever card the next gen AMD chassis will be able to be mounted with. Is that right? If not, super grateful if you could suggest the ideal combo processor/ graphics card.

Also, would you mind explaining what you mean when you say that AMD chassis can actually be cooled? Are you still suggesting to get an external device or should be ok with what I get in the box?

A thousand thanks!

All the good AMD chassis sold out long ago. They’re very popular and not made in such large quantities, so the good models sell out by May or so.

Laptops aren’t like desktops, the GPU is part of the motherboard, not something you slot in. So once they’re sold, they’re out of stock

AMD chassis don’t need external coolers.

Got it. So, will monitor PCS to see when the new chassis will be on sale in 2025 and get a powerful AMD one as soon as I can, possibly reviving this thread to kindly get your opinion before buying. And I will owe you a good pizza as a minimum.

Absolutely, CES starts the first week of January and the laptops (especially Clevo and TongFang that PCS stock) are generally the highlight models.

We’ll know more by the end of the first working week about release dates. PCS are a partner so will normally have stocks on release day.

Come back and we can spec you something far more suitable

Hello @SpyderTracks, happy new year! As discussed back in November, I am reviving this thread to get ready and invest on a good gaming laptop (or desktop replacement). I understand that PCS will have the new chassis and processors in stock in a couple of weeks, but wanted to check if you have already an idea/ suggestion of what I should be looking at. Happy to discuss over only when the parts are in stock, of course. As you can tell, I am quite keen. Thank you again for your support a few weeks ago and for any thoughts you will be kindly providing in the next days!
