New RAM corrupted Windows

Hi,
I purchased a PCSpecialist custom PC about a year and a half ago and recently, I decided to upgrade the RAM from 2x8gb 3200mhz to 2x16gb 3200mhz (both Corsair vengeance). Upon installing the 2 new RAM sticks (after removing the old ones) and starting up my PC, I was greeted with a blue Windows error screen. I restarted my PC a couple of times and had many different stop codes, the most common being memory management. I tried most of the troubleshooting steps on the Windows error screens, but none worked and my PC kept blue screening as soon as I was off the blue screen help page. I tried fixing windows (through the troubleshooting menu) but it said that it was corrupted and it couldn't fix the issue. I decided to try reinstalling Windows, so used a family member's PC to install the Windows media creation tool on a USB stick and tried to boot my PC up onto that. It worked, and I started the process of installing windows, but then about 15% of the way through installing windows, it blue-screened. I tried it again a couple of times, and it kept doing it, even after I formatted the Windows partition on my drive.

I was wondering if anyone has any advice on what to try that might help fix the situation?

Thanks in advance,
Michael

Put the old RAM back in and reinstall Windows. If everything goes well then the problem is the new RAM. Are you sure it's compatible with the motherboard?

I tried putting the old RAM back in. On powering up, I got a half blue-screen half pcs loading screen. Then, after a few restarts, it froze on the pcs logo many times. Didn't even get to the windows install screen.

Either the ram is incompatible, or it’s defective.

What voltage and timings is it?

That's according to the corsair page
The only other thing is making sure your BIOS is up to date, BIOS updates often include better compatibility for RAM DIMMS
But get PCS approval before flashing the BIOS for warranty reasons.

But it sounds like the 2 x 16 is faulty to me.

Then I would think you may have dislodged something when swapping the RAM. I would check all cables and connectors - at both ends.

Do you know how I would go about updating the BIOS? And would the warranty even be valid now as I have changed components and been inside the case?

Warranty isn't affected by upgrades of RAM, PCS have an open chassis policy where you can do upgrades as you like except Motherboard and case.

Contact PCS and they'll guide you through a BIOS update.

Thanks, I will contact them about the BIOS. I have already contacted them about the issue, but I wasn't quite as clear about what was happening, so got a response saying to do something I had already done. I have replied and am awaiting another response. In regards to the warranty, they said that because I did not purchase the RAM from them (which I didn't know was possible), I am not covered.

You're not covered for support stemming from the new RAM, but it doesn't affect the rest of the build. If you were to replace the old RAM then the RAM is covered as well.

TBH you may find it's easier to return this RAM that's causing issues and buy some through PCS

7.8Unlike with most computer companies, we allow you to open your case and install your own components without voiding your warranty on the following conditions:

  • If the actions of the person installing the components cause damage to the computer, your warranty will be void;
  • If you install components that are not purchased from us and they cause problems with your computer, your warranty will be void;

Let's take a step back a moment. Was it all working just fine before you bought the new RAM?

I don't think it's the RAM. If it isn't working with the old RAM then you've caused the issue during the upgrade. I would stick with the old RAM for now just to get to the end of the fault finding.

It could be something as simple as a SATA cable. Do you have any other drives installed other than the M2 drive? If not, I would look to remove and replace all connections on the motherboard (carefully).

Unfortunately it definitely seems related to the install technique to me, it could be anything but I have a feeling it's physical.

I agree with @Scott. If it was working fine with the old RAM and now it's not working with the old (or new) RAM then you must have disturbed something during the installation of the new RAM.

No, I only have the m.2. I am away at the moment but I'll try it when I get home.
