New pc with £2k budget

Hello, I'm looking for a good update to my current W10 desktop. My budget is around £2k. Any suggestions/recommendation for this initial spec? BTW I cannot be bothered with blingy lights

Thx

Bob

We'll need to know a few things so that we can help/advise.
  • What is the PC going to be used for? (gaming only, work use only, rendering, mix of all, majority of one or the other)
  • What monitor is it being paired with (make & model, or resolution & refresh rate)
  • What is your MAX budget (£2000 is high 1080p or middling 1400p territory)
It would also help if you could add the config link to the bottom of your post, so that we can use it to build on instead of recreating everything from scratch.

Hi Tony, mostly older and less demanding game I guess (currently playing Starfield, just about). I already have a Dell S2721QS 4k UHD monitor, I don't know much more about it than that. Max budget is £2K and small change, but I don't need a monitor, kb, mouse etc. I will add the configuration link in a moment

That Dell Dell S2721QS is a 4k 60hz productivity monitor, so we now we don't need to aim at a fast refresh 4k gaming build...and a 1440p GPU will probably drive that at 60FPS quite happily.

If there's no heavy, multi-core usage (video editing, 3d rendering, etc.) then we can go for a gaming CPU instead of a productivity CPU.

Something like this is just about on budget...

Case
FRACTAL POP SILENT CASE SOLID (BLACK) - black side panel instead of clear, to avoid any distracting RGB lighting
Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Eight Core CPU (4.2GHz-5.0GHz/104MB w/3D V-CACHE/AM5) - last gen king of gaming CPUs, but faster than the 7900X
Motherboard
GIGABYTE X870 EAGLE WIFI7 (AM5, DDR5, M.2 PCIe 5.0, Wi-Fi 7) - slightly higher level than the Asus B850
Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 6000MHz CL40 (2 x 16GB) - sweet spot of value/performance for AM5 CPUs
Graphics Card
16GB GIGABYTE RADEON™ RX 9070 GAMING OC - 2 x HDMI, 2 x DP - could change to the 12GB RTX5070 to save £20, but lose 4GB of VRAM
1st M.2 SSD Drive
1TB CORSAIR ELITE MP600 NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD (up to 7000 MB/R, 6200 MB/W) - comparable performance to the Solidigm, but a little cheaper to trim the budget
1st M.2 SSD Drive
2TB CORSAIR CORE XT MP600 NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD (up to 5000 MB/R, 4400 MB/W) - comparable performance to the Solidigm, but a little cheaper to trim the budget
Power Supply
CORSAIR 1000W RMx SERIES™ ATX 3.1, MODULAR, CYBENETICS GOLD - 850W is enough for the current build, but for the extra few ££ this gives you headroom for a GPU and/or CPU upgrade in 3-5 years time
Power Cable
1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead, 1.0mm Core)
Processor Cooling
CORSAIR NAUTILUS 240 RS ARGB HIGH PERFORMANCE CPU COOLER
Thermal Paste
STANDARD THERMAL PASTE FOR SUFFICIENT COOLING
