It seems about right for the budget, but I would strongly suggest a few tweaks:

Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™ i7 Six Core Processor i7-8700 (3.2GHz) 12MB Cache
With your budget, the high end components you are already buying, and WoW being among your titles, I would suggest getting a pre-overclocked system, using this configurator:
https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/compu...0-overclocked/

Motherboard
ASUS® ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING: ATX, LGA1151, USB 3.1, SATA 6GBs, WIFI - RGB Ready
This is a very expensive motherboard. It amy not be worth it at all for you, depending on what you actually want from it.

1st Hard Disk
2TB SEAGATE FIRECUDA 3.5" SSHD - UP TO 5X FASTER THAN HDD!
With a fairly large and very fast SSD, and the ease with which you can swap games between drives, I'd stick to a regular HDD as you won't get much benefit off the SSHD.

e.g.

Case
FRACTAL DEFINE S BLACK GAMING CASE (Window)
Overclocked CPU
Overclocked Intel® Core™ i7-8700K Six Core (3.7GHz @ up to 4.8GHz)
---FREE Warhammer: Vermintide 2 & XMorph Defense w/ select Intel CPUs!
Motherboard
ASUS® PRIME Z370-P: ATX, LGA1151, USB 3.1, SATA 6GBs
Memory (RAM)
16GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3000MHz (2 x 8GB)
Graphics Card
8GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1080 - DVI, HDMI, 3x DP - GeForce GTX VR Ready!
1[SUP]st[/SUP] Hard Disk
2TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA SATA-III 3.5" HDD, 6GB/s, 7200RPM, 64MB CACHE
1[SUP]st[/SUP] M.2 SSD Drive
500GB SAMSUNG 960 EVO M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 3200MB/R, 1900MB/W)
---FREE Far Cry® 5 with select SAMSUNG NVMe SSDs!
DVD/BLU-RAY Drive
NOT REQUIRED

Sound Card

Wireless/Wired Networking

And lastly:

Graphics Card
8GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1080 - DVI, HDMI, 3x DP - GeForce GTX VR Ready!
What monitor are you pairing this with exactly?

not sure of the model number off top of my head but the monitor is a benq with 144hz refresh rate, and friends have always advised me against oc'd systems saying they don't last as long and put more strain on parts(i'm not very pc savvy so this may be way off the mark)

Overclocking does shorten the lifetime, but by so little that the system will have been obsolete for some time before it matters. This is especially true of professional overclocking (i.e. done by PCS experts).

The overclock PCS apply is actually quite tame - enough to give a bit of a performance boost (taking 6-core turbo from 4.3GHz to upto 4.8GHz) but without being unrealistic for most CPUs.

There are no statistics on overclocking and lifespan that I know of, probably because everyone's uses are different and every CPU is different ('silicon lottery'), but when looking for stats all I've found is forum topics full of people suggesting it takes lifespan down from, say, 15 years to 12 years, and that their overclocked CPU from way back when still runs fine.

My PCS overclocked i7 3770k from 2012/3 has boost of 3.9GHz but has been OCed to 4.6GHz all of it's life and is apparently still working just fine :)

High end components are designed pretty much with overclocking in mind. The -k model CPUs have the multiplier unlocked for this, the Z- series mobos are the only ones that allow OCing of Intel CPUs so the manufacturers know anyone who buys one is probably going to be doing that, the CPU coolers like the Noctua are capable of dealing with much more heat than the CPU puts out at stock, etc, etc...

An overclocked spec is only £10 more than a stock clocked one. So you're unlocking potentially a good dose of extra performance for very little extra cash.

Furthermore, it is very easy to swap BIOS profiles - you can save and load your BIOS settings with a few mouse clicks. So you could buy the overclocked system, and remove and reapply the overclock at will in the BIOS pretty easily.

For £10, imo, there's no reason not to go for an OCed system - especially with things like WoW where the CPU's performance is quite important, and you want to be pushing as high a framerate as you can for your monitor.

I was going to add that you could get a more expensive motherboard if you wanted. It's not essential, and will make no difference to framerate. However, the Gigabyte Ultra Gaming is "only" £46 more than the Z370-P and has USB 3.1 Gen 2 including Type C, more sata ports, more upmarked onboard sound, and SLI support.

You may very well not need any of those, but if you think you might in the future it could be worth going for the Ultra Gaming.

Seagate needs to find better things to do with its time than linking the datasheet to its HDDs in every topic that mentions a seagate drive :/ In all candour.

Perhaps it would make more sense to post a topic people can refer to that lists links for the datasheets to all Seagate drives PCS sell? :)

sorry 1 last question before I buy.Is the 1080 ti worth the extra £210 for a performance boost or stick with the 1080?

I would say no for a 1080p 144hz monitor. A 1080 is already plenty powerful and will keep you going for a good while.

Note that if you don't mind ordering the system without a GPU and fitting your own, you can find GTX 1080s for under £500.
