Operating System
Windows 10 Home 64 Bit - inc. Single Licence [KUK-00001]

Issue is that whenever I try and play anything it just keeps stuttering, or crashing. Flight Simulator just crashes to desktop, though could just be the game as it's known for being buggy. Jedi Fallen Order stutters and the bluetooth stops responding. Forza Horizon also stutters, with the sound dropping out, though the best of the three.

I'm not getting any error messages or BSOD's but after playing any of the games for 5+ mins the GPU is at 90C+. A seperate issue (or potential issue) I had when I first got the pc is that the fans seemed to be running hard even when idling (45-50 decibals).

Any ideas? I've updated all drivers, dropped settings in the games to see if they become more stable but it doesn't make a difference.

I really don't want to have to return the pc if I can help it but I have no idea what else to try at this point.

When you first set it up did you install ALL updates including the optional ones, if not run updates including the optional ones till no more, rebooting as required along the way

I installed everything. Even went to intel's site and found a bluetooth driver that hadn't been recommended by Windows Update as I was concerned that was the cause of the issue due to the xbox controller was dropping out at the same time. Also ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic as it was suggested that could be a cause but it didn't find anything.

The chosen CPU cooler as for 5800X isn't the best one here... But for GPU, I'm not familiar with AMD Radeon. What is a manufacturer? Have you installed the right drivers from Amd or GPU manufacturer's website? Maybe worth to uninstall a GPU driver with DDU and install it again? 90C for some GPUs is ok, depending on the manufacturer and model. I'm wondering, maybe a weak CPU cooler you've chosen also adds some degrees here...

I've got the RX 6700 XT and I never go over 60 degrees when gaming. First thing I'd do is disable 0 RPM mode on GPU and set a custom fan curve and if OP wants I can help him with that giving him a proper fan curve for that GPU. But as you said, good thing to know would be the GPU manufacturer (brand and specific model of the brand).

Most recent drivers can be found here:

When installing the drivers, click on "advanced options" and click on "factory reset". It does same as DDU, deleting your existing drivers and installing them clean.

It's a XFX SPEEDSTER SWFT 309 AMD Radeon™ RX 6700 XT. I did reinstall the drivers, including from factory settings but it didn't make any difference.

On the points around the parts, I didn't so much pick the parts but chose one of PCS next-day builds as my previous PCS laptop died - https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/computers-for-next-day-delivery/1240/. I likely would have chosen a different cooler and a higher W PSU if given the choice as it seems a little on the low side.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me but I think I've worked out what was wrong. It was Bluetooth, specifically the bluetooth headphones I was using (Sony wh1000mx3). I was using them for gaming as the speakers on my monitor are terrible and I don't have any standalone speakers. I decided to wire them up to test if turning off all bluetooth devices made a difference and pretty much all of the performance issues disapeared.

Using only my xbox bluetooth controller it does seem to drop out for a second here and there but no graphical erformance issues. Either way, there clearly appears to just be something wrong with the Bluetooth receiver. No idea if it's software or hardware but easy to just disable it and get a replacement.

The fans are still a bit loud but I think that's just the fans used in the build. I can cope with it, though would appreciate any guidance you can provide to keep the GPU cool. It was still pushing 90C just through my testing to see if I'd fixed the problem.

Open AMD Radeon Software and go on "performance", after that click "optimization", click on "manual". You'll have 3 menus, the one you need is the on the right. Now, disable "RPM zero", enable "advanced control", open "optimization commands" and enter as following:

Fan speed: P1: 18 - P2: 35 - P3: 40 - P4: 50 - P5: 100

Temperature: P1: 38 - P2: 45 - P3: 50 - P4: 60 - P5: 75

This will change your fan curve response based on GPU temperatures.

After doing that, save the settings clicking on "apply", click on "stress test" and run it. When done, if it all seems "normal", try playing a game and monitor your temps.

Thanks, applied the settings and stress testing and it seemed fine. The new settings are keeping to GPU cooler, around 80C after an hour of gaming. Strangely when I first applied them I had the computer restart without warning and then AMD app say that an error had occured and that all settings had been reset to default. I then reapplied the fan settings and haven't had an issue since.

Anyway thanks for your help.

I also bought a USB bluetooth adaptor and turned off the onboard adaptor. Problems solved and can use my bluetooth headphones again.

80 degrees is still high in my opinion. What are you playing? Also, what's the temperature of the GPU in idle?
