New PC - Loose RAM

My custom PC from PCSpecialist just arrived. I noticed something was completely loose inside and it's a piece of RAM (see pic). It was on top of the hard drive before I took it out to make a picture. What do I do now? Btw I'm very inexperienced with computer parts. The custom PC is supposed to have 2 x 4GB. The other one I can't see.

There's likely one installed into the motherboard, you should let PCS know that its arrived like this, its not acceptable as it is a sign of it not being installed correctly / being knocked in transit.

To move forward just now though, if you're entirely inexperienced we can help here or if you're more comfortable you can give PCS a call and they can talk you through the process (might be quicker!).

For us to help, what are your full specs? Can you post a picture of your motherboard (so we can see what slot the other stick is installed in).

And I'll third the suggestion that you call PCS. Not only do they need to know that a PC has been delivered in this state but you don't know what other damage may have been done in transit. There is no way that PC should have passed Q&A with a loose RAM stick inside and PCS need to know.

Thanks for the replies. On closer inspection both RAM sticks have come loose. 20200219_093059.jpg 20200219_094549.jpg

I'm guessing they are supposed to be to the right next to the AMD fan. I'm not sure if the Vengeance logo should be facing right or left. ANd yes I will phone later.

So it appears that your system doesn't have any ram in it at all currently and that the two sticks you ordered were not installed (or you were only supplied 1x 8Gb stick) either way its not acceptable at all.

Ram can only be inserted one way, if you look at your ram stick you'll notice it has a notch, this will correspond to the notch in the motherboard. I'd use the 'left' slot first (labelled DIM_A1). Its up to you if you want to try and fit it, personally I'd phone PCS first as something has gone a bit wrong during your build and they should be informed. As pointed out above, there could be other damage to the PC, at least if you phone PCS first they can advise on any fault finding they'd like you to do (if any).

It has both of the 4GB sticks. I guess they were not installed properly. Which raises the question of if the PC has been tested at all. I will insert the sticks and see if it works later today when my monitor arrives.

If it were mine I'd talk to PCS before attempting to reinsert the RAM myself.

With no RAM the PC won't POST and it should have been tested. That means it's been subjected to some pretty serious vibration in transit even if the RAM cards were not inserted properly in the first place.

Firstly thank you for raising this issue with us as it is shocking to see a system arrive in this state.

I can confirm both 4GB sticks were present in the system during testing and QC checks but I will raise this with the relevant departments to try and avoid any further instances of this.

I have forwarded your details on to the Customer Care team to try and contact you. I would prefer at the very least for us to replace those RAM sticks as they should not have been roaming around the system and preferably to get your entire system back on a priority RMA so we can check no other damage was caused with loose RAM.
