New Mac Mini uses an actual modular SSD!!!

The new Mac Mini in it's base configuration is really making waves, there is nothing that comes close to it at the budget with such full GPU performance and capable processor.

Upgrade prices are absolutely insane, and I really wish regulators would step in and set some clear boundaries.

BUT on a really positive vein, the SSD is a modular card!!! So upgradeability and repair should be far easier. OWC tend to be the first to come out with 3rd party solutions to Mac upgrades, so keep an eye out.

But overall, it looks very serviceable, it all comes down to weather or not Apple have played the dirty game of hardware pairing components to that specific system, but I believe the EEC really cracked down on that in line with Right To Repair.

It does look like Apple may be finally caving to the Right To Repair Movement, largely spearheaded by iFixit in the EU and Louis Rossman in the USA, we all owe them an awful lot!

It's modular, but proprietary, as the controller is still on the SSD rather than the motherboard. So it will be easier for Apple Stores to replace them, but still awkward for anyone else who doesn't have the official Apple repair robot on lease.

I'd be surprised if you can buy them from anywhere other than Apple, at £500/TB - unless you're comfortable with a soldering rig ;)

I reckon OWC will stock them eventually, I have no doubt, they always come up with the goods.
