Hi all! New member here. I ordered a Vortex 3 as above today. Originally wanted a Haswell (Optimus V) but reckon paying a bit more for the Vortex 3 with better GPU. Vortex 4 with Haswell is out of budget for me unfortunately :sweatdrop: .

As I ordered an mSATA SSD + HDD, keeping the optical drive, I just want to know whether the OS will be default installed on the mSATA SSD or not? Tried to see if I can put a note in the 'set partition' on the order but I only have option for the HDD.

If the OS cannot be installed on the mSATA SSD, I reckon I will have to change the spec and opt for a normal SSD + HDD in optical drive caddy instead. (Still early days in the order process so possible!)

Any advice appreciated! Thanks!

You may want to contact PCS directly to make sure the os is in the SSD. You may want to consider better thermal paste, a Scorpio black as a secondary drive and the killer 1202 wireless card. An SSD is not essential, you could save some money dropping it.

I do prefer an SSD for the speed/performance. The HDD is only there for bulky stuff such as photos and videos etc, therefore any basic one shall do :D. Standard thermal paste shall do as well as the 2x2 wireless card (at least better than the default).

I may have to call PCS and check this OS issue out.

I enquired about the same thing tsleng and was told that they cannot install the OS on the mSATA SSDs because there are booting issues.

I called PCS this morning. They said not problem and put a request in for the OS to be on the mSATA SSD.
My order subsequently went into the build stage and the request note is now shown as completed.

I guess all is well then! PCS!
