Hi there. You don’t need a Threadripper for gaming, if anything it’ll be detrimental. In all honesty, it’s not a very well configured system and you could do a lot better. If you can answer us a few questions we’ll be able to advise.

What’s your budget for the system?

Any other system uses than gaming? Streaming, photo or video editing etc?

What monitor will you be using? Make and model or resolution and refresh rate is what we’re after.

What types of games will you be playing?

Get back to us and we’ll see what we can come up with for you 👍

Hi, thank you in advance for the advice, I think I've fallen for the 'bigger the price, the better the rig' mentality!

1. Budget is between £2.5k and £3k, of course I'd prefer less but I save for a new machine during the lfiecycle of my current one.

2. Just gaming, nothing fancier than that.

3. I need to update my monitor as well, and hoping to go to 4k as a minimum.

4. I mostly play city builders, strategy, and simulators. Planet Zoo is probably one of my most resource intensive games. I'm thinking ahead though to the new Company of Heroes, and I'd like to run Cyberpunk 2077 smoothly at high settings.

Okie dokie, thanks for getting back to us. Done a spec that would cover your uses nicely and last a fair few years, with a couple of GPU upgrades along the way. The 3070Ti would be very comfortable at 4K 60Hz… or you could go ultrawide 1440p 144Hz, which I personally think is a much better option and it’s hella immersive for sim games.

Thank you! I'll take a look into that build. I need to understand the dual storage setup a bit as well, as I've not gone down that route before.

Thank you! I'll take a look into that build. I need to understand the dual storage setup a bit as well, as I've not gone down that route before.
The reasoning behind the storage is as follows:

HDD for general file storage, things that don't benefit from fast storage such as documents, videos etc.
A really fast M.2 for the OS and programs so everything loads fast
A slightly slower M.2 for the games drive, this means that games will load fast, and should you ever have to reinstall the OS, you wont have to download and reinstall all your games again
