It depends on what your use for the machine is. But if anything I highly doubt you'll need much in the way of upgrades if any at all. In fact you could downgrade somethings that youve chosen and still have a beast of a machine.

Budget and planned use please. Do you plan to overclock? Do you plan to upgrade? How long do you want it to last?

Budget £3000
Planned Use: Business / home use, no gaming (can't stand slow machines)
Overclock: Yes
Upgrade: Probably not.
Last how long: 5 years min.

Please expand on 'business and home use', what tasks will actually be performed and what software will be used? Gotta say, 3K for that just seems like a gigantic amount of overkill.

I think you would get a better result from spending £1,500 now and buying another machine for £1,500 in two and a half years' time. Same expenditure but you would have a better computer at the end of the five year period (and, of course, the first machine could be sold, repurposed or cannibalised). I appreciate your point that you don't like slow machines. Neither do I. However, for £1,500 (or a lot less, actually) you can get a machine that will make standard-issue Windows business and home-entertainment software absolutely fly.

But if you could expand a bit on the type of programs you want to run then I think we can make some useful suggestions.
