I will be buying a new desktop in a few months. I do play some very high end games like Black Desert Online, the MMO and similar games to it that require a very good graphics card to run smoothly. However, I also work from home so the PC will have to be good at all the other general tasks to.

My budget is about £1000 for the desktop alone, slightly flexible. If anyone can help and maybe post a build for me. I have tried myself but not getting anywhere to be honest. Thanks.

As above, we can suggest specs, but need to know the budget for the whole system so it's all balanced. Or if you have a monitor already, what is the resolution and refresh rate?

Sorry yes, I would prefer to play games in 1440.....the maximum I would spend on the tower alone is £1000, +/- £100 before tax, excluding a monitor as I will buy a new one separately.

We need to know the budget for the monitor too.

The budget for the monitor tells us what spec you are likely to end up with.

And we need to make sure the PC and monitor are properly suited to each other.

Sorry, im not that great at this. Will be the first time I have 'built' a PC to which I will end up buying. My monitor budget is £100-200.

No worries, all part of the process :)

£200 is a bit of a minimum for 1440p, and better 1440p monitors will be ~£250+. Most are £350-500, but there are some decent enough sub £300 ones.

If you can add your monitor budget to your PC budget, you can just about do it though.

I have posted a few times this year about buying a new PC from this site. I'm now at the time where I will be ordering it. My uses for it. I am more of a casual gamer but do play AAA games preferably on Higher Settings in 1440p. I also work from home and will use it for general other tasks to so it does stay on for long periods at a time.
This build comes to a total of £1633 which includes VAT, which I would be willing to pay if I really had to, but if there are any savings that can be made or things changed, feedback would be appreciated, to maybe get it to a slightly lower price if you can. Thanks

The other concern is that the next-gen of consoles comes out later this year, which means the next-gen of games that are purely dedicated to these maybe out in the next year or 2. Would this build be capable to handle them?
The final question, do motherboards affect the performance/speed of a PC or it is mainly the components that do?

I would be much more likely to go down the AMD route to be honest. It'll be a more productive system and handle high end 1440p gaming with ease. You will want to pair this with a high refresh Adaptive Sync 1440p monitor (circa £350 I think).

If you're buying a monitor, what's the budget and when would you be looking to buy one?

No point buying a £1600 system if you can't afford a decent monitor for several months.

I have a feeling you may be suggested a different processor cooler but one of the experts will chip in soon to confirm.

I would say though you should remove Bullguard from the antivirus, Windows defender is currently what you should want to use
