needing an advice on a new laptop

Hello

it seems this is the right place to post this :)

So, as the title says, I am thinking of getting a new laptop. Mine (a Dell Studio 1745) is not that old (around 3 years and a half, which I think is the expiration date of many commercial laptops!) but it has some quirks here and there that start to become a real nuisance. Thus, I'm looking around for a substitute and it seems to me that pcspecialist is a good option! :)
However I'm in doubt about the good configuration...

For my home computer I would like to get again a 17" screen laptop - I don't care too much about portability (but at the same time I don't want a desktop because I find it too cumbersome). I use it mainly for two things: watching stuff (hence the 17" dimensions) and playing games. No serious work on my home pc!
I don't play computational- or graphically-consuming games; no first-person shootings or such, I'm more into strategy (no real-time) games as Civ V, the various Paradox series, etc. However I do play RPGs as Skyrim or the Witcher, but even in Skyrim's case I was able to play it with my current computer without being horrified by the lack of extrahigh resolution details.

By the way, my computer has an old Intel Core Duo P7450 CPU, with 4Gb ram and a Mobility Radeon HD 4650.

So I don't think I need a state-of-the-art configuration, but I still would like something that is able to last for some time.
This is reflected by my budget considering I'd like to spend maximum 700 pounds (around 650 if possible).

So if you have any configuration suggestions please throw your opinion in, please!

wow so fast, hm thanks!
So you think that it's better to get a good graphic card and an average-above/average CPU than the opposite?

By the way, can the qwerty UK keyboard be set as international?

I think keynes has got you a good setup there. The gtx660m still has plenty to offer, you'll just have to lower your detail settings in the latest games. That little core i5 will tick a long nicely too, gpu's are always what will bottleneck your system the most, always splash as much cash as poss on the gpu! Well, thats my theory anyway!

Well actually I meant the opposite here... :) it seems to me (at least judging by the benchmark performances) that the graphic card is pretty in the high range while the CPU is more average, I was wondering if Keynes' choices indicate that the tradeoff between cpu and graphic card should favour the latter.

I would have chosen a 4 core processor but for your budget that is the best I could come up with. For your budget the i5 + GTX 660m is the best combination imo.

If you want to play games such as civ v ( which is awesome by the way! :punk:, not to mention the new add on ), you will need a lot of RAM and ideally an i7 processor.
