Post the build from the PCS configurator please. You'll find instructions on how to do that at the bottom of the configurator page. It's very difficult for people to offer good advice without seeing the whole build. :)

Is it purely for editing etc? No gaming?

If so, I would drop the GPU down to the 2060 at the very most. That should save a bit of money. I would also drop to 32GB of RAM, I can't think of any reason whatsoever that 64GB would make much odds for your uses. A fast scratch drive would cover any shortcomings anyway.

I would put a little more towards storage. I would aim for a 1TB system drive and a 512GB scratch drive. Something like this..

It would be insanely fast for what you are looking for. The storage and scratch drives are 2nd to none.

one more thing please would it be worth while paying that extra for 3950x? Would the motherboard and everything else in the above spec handle it?

Or from your great knowledge shall i just stick to the 3900x? Many many than
ks, youve helped me soo much

That's honestly entirely up to you. FWIW the 3900X is an absolutely MONSTER CPU. The 3950X just goes into laughably ridiculous territory. You don't need it IMO and £300 is a fair chunk of change to put towards a few cores. It IS the absolute best money can buy at the moment though (within reason). Everything surrounding the entire build allows for the 3950X, and even the next generation of AMD.

If you're going to be encoding for long periods of time then it may be worthwhile for you. I think the 3900X will really surprise you regardless though.

On that topic, I just advised a friend on a 3950x build with 64Gb RAM for a build suited for Data Science, he was processing large datasets and running SQL Databases.

He previously did the work on a 4 year old Mac.

He used to run one data compiler on the Mac and it would take around 1 hour and 20 minutes before timing out.

He ran the same compile on the new PC and it finished in 3 minutes and ran 7 more times before he realised and halted the process. It then spat out an average over the seven passes.

The 3950x is a monstrosity of a chip, there really is nothing like it in the desktop space. It's needlessly overpowered for almost all uses, BUT if you've got the budget and you're doing something very CPU intensive, I would personally say it's well worth it! It will transform your render/encoding times to the point you won't believe it's actually completed when it says it has.

Thank you the scotster yiur advice has been immesnsely helpful, thank you for taking time out to reply to me!

Yes im just thinking to myself that if i can push budget out the 3950x will futire proof me a little more, as long as the rest of the spec build allows for it, many many thanks

No worries at all. I look forward to seeing what you end up getting if you decide to share :D
Thank you! Yes will defo tell you guys! Will most likely put order in tommorow or friday

Just one more thing please

What if i were to reduce the ram to 32gb and pay the extra for the 3950x

Will i be able to increase the ram at a later date?

Thank you

I think that 64GB is overkill anyway. And yes, as long as you select 2x16 it's very easy to upgrade with another 2x16GB at a later date.

Like I say though, you're picking between a bugatti veyron and a bugatti chiron here.... you can't lose. I think it's a step too far considering how good the 3900X already is, but again......... it's great for pub talk :D

Many thanks mr scotster, appreciate it

Hi yes ive decided on the following spec with mr scotster recommendation, will be placing order tommorow please if you can have a quick look to see if any minor adjustements need to be made

Btw when i proceeded with qoute it said i only need 450kw power but i think its always best to go with higher power im guessing?

And it popped up with a message saying..
"Install the os on the m.2/Pci.e ssd and NOT the mechanical drive as its not recommended

Again many thanks would have been stuck for weeks without the invaluable advice from all who have helped!
