Hi.
My current pc is old now and it doesn't play recent games and struggles with FPS now and again, My spec at the moment is:

Processor (CPU) AMD FX-6300 Six Core CPU (3.50GHz/8MB CACHE/AM3+)
ASUS® M5A78L-M/USB3 (M-ATX, DDR3, USB 3.0, 3Gb/s)
4GB SAMSUNG DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz (1 X 4GB)
1GB AMD RADEON™ HD7790 - 2x DVI,HDMI - DX® 11, , Eyefinity 3 Capable
Power Supply 450W Quiet 80 PLUS Dual Rail PSU + 120mm Case Fan
Processor Cooling STANDARD AMD CPU COOLER
Sound Card ONBOARD 8 CHANNEL (7.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)

What i want to do is upgrade so i can play top notch games on ultra and be ok for the next 3-4 years.
What can i change to and roughly how much £ would it cost?
Thanks in advance.

You have 4gb RAM which isn't really enough for modern gaming. 8gb may help quite a bit and not be too expensive. 4gb RAM isn't much.

You'll also want to upgrade your GPU, probably to an RX 480 / GTX 1060. That would be ~£180-£260.

Those will play modern games on high or very high settings, though no GPU out today will still play new releases on ultra in 3 years time.

Your CPU is starting to show its age tbh. It would get outperformed in modern games by a £100 Intel i3. But changing your CPU will mean changing your motherboard, RAM, and possibly OS licence as well, which is buying most of a new computer.

As the years go by your CPU will be more and more of an issue for running modern games smoothly, especially if you want to upgrade your GPU again.

to be fair i did get my pc in may 2013 and its at that point where its not working 100%, would the parts be worth anything to sell?

Well if it might be time for a new system you could always get a new GPU now which will help a lot for gaming, and some more RAM which will be cheap enough, and then review your options once AMD have released their Zen CPUs sometime in the new year. You can then buy a new system without a GPU when you're ready and swap in whatever you've bought in the meantime.
